Transfer 5, Week 1

Note: The names of the investigators have been changed

Writing Transfer 5 at the top of this post is super weird to me. Have I ACTUALLY been here that long or what? Also I hit my one-year-left mark the other day (June 7th) so I'm kind of freaking out about how much there is left to do in just one year. Like my comp says... Time flies when you're having fun! And being a missionary isn't always fun of course but hard work is rewarding and there's no better way to use your time than this.

This week was hard. Just hard. A lot of our investigators weren't home or were too busy to see us... But we did manage to get a few lessons in. We FINALLY saw Bertina and Martino again, and we found out that Bertina still wants to come to church and has been meaning to read the Book of Mormon. She's just been really busy with the kids and when she has time to read she's too tired to focus. So we offered to come over and just read with her. :) Unfortunately she's been making lots of plans for Sundays (hello summer, goodbye church attendance...) so getting the family to church might be a problem. We'll try to work with her on that. But I'm just happy that she's still interested!!

Marta introduced us to her daughter Laura this week. She didn't actually know we were coming over so when she opened the door and saw two girls in dresses with weird nametags standing next to her mom her face was like... .____. Hahaha I can't even describe it! For a second we thought it was going to be rough. But she was just surprised. In the end we had a good chat and she laughed with us and it was fine! Aside from the suffocating heat. That was not fine at all. It's been FAR too hot lately and it's only the beginning of June. Anyway, we left Laura the Restoration pamphlet and she said she would be happy to read it! She seemed enthusiastic and interested in what we do so we're hoping to go back there this week with Franca.

Next big thing: Diana. Guys, she is AWESOME. We talked to her about the Plan of Salvation and about prophets the other day and she is just a sponge, she absorbs everything we teach! We found out that she has actually translated the Bible from Greek or something and her understanding of it is so deep. She said that even if someone told her everything in the Bible was false, she would still know that God exists. The Spirit was guiding us and helping us teach clearly and most of the time I didn't know what I was going to say before I said it. The words just came out. It was fantastic. At the end Sorella McPheters challenged Diana to Sorella Teixeira's 65-day challenge and... She accepted!!! She was so excited to learn that it's possible to read the whole Book of Mormon in just 65 days! We promised her that it would let her know of a surety that the Book of Mormon is true. She's already been praying about what we teach her so that's even better. I am so excited for this woman. She's a true example of diligence and real intent!!

Side note, I randomly saw Sorella Margheriti in the metro today in Rome. It was AWESOME!!!! We took a picture together but she hasn't sent it to me yet!

Here's a little miracle that happened this week: we were about to have a lesson at the park with Alfonso and there was a pretty ugly storm coming. The clouds were dark and there was a lot of thunder but we absolutely could not afford not to teach Alfonso that day so we decided to pray. We asked Heavenly Father to not let it rain and while Sorella McPheters was praying this thought came into my head: Do you have the faith to move mountains?

The thunder stopped... and it didn't rain.

God answers prayers. It's something that I always knew but my testimony of it has strengthened so, so much in my time as a missionary. He is watching, He is aware of your needs, and He loves each one of you. Never forget that. I love my mission and I love the people I have been so blessed to serve. This is truly the Lord's work!
