First Zone Conference

First Zone Conference for Sorella Battezzato. During Zone Conference missionaries get to meet  other missionaries from the same area and get trained by the Mission President and his assistants. On this occasion they also role played the birth of Jesus Christ. They did it in a very interesting way!

Molto originale!

More Pictures from the MTC in Madrid

SorellaBattezzato recently sent these pictures taken when she was at the MTC.
She has studied German for several years getting several awards at a national level. She was thrilled to speak German to native speakers in Madrid!

Sorella Battezzato ha inviato recentemente queste foto fatte mentre era all'MTC a Madrid.

First P-day on the mission field!

Hey everybody! There has been so much going on, I don't even know where to start.

First things first, before I left the Villa (the mission home) in Rome me and Sorella Rossi and Sorella Valencia (we all came from the MTC) went on splits ( when missionaries go out with different companions from the one usually assigned to them) with the sister missionaries in Rome. I was with Sorella Vasilachi. We went talking to people in the city and had some REALLY good gelato. Dad, I got extra dark chocolate! Your favorite! It was like eating a melted brownie on a cone. It was SOOO GOOD. I need to have it again. (I'm hungry, can you tell?) But yeah, Sorella Vasilachi is awesome. I had to leave her behind in the city since my area is out in the country but we have a zone conference tomorrow so I'll see her there!

So my area is absolutely breathtaking. There are hills everywhere, big green fields, farms, and small mountains in the distance. It really looks the way I imagined the countryside of Rome to be like.

My companion, Sorella Margheriti, is the absolute best! The Anziani here (Anziano Puff from Bolzano and Anziano Gardenhier from Utah) thought we were sisters the first time they saw us. Like... actual sisters. We've gotten that from other people too. Haha :)

The investigators ( those that are not members of the church but study the scriptures with the missionaries) here are awesome! I taught my first lesson here to a Nigerian woman named Precious. She doesn't speak much Italian so we teach her in English. She accepted the invitation to be baptized before I got here but I invited her to be baptized again because I felt the Spirit prompting me to do it. And of course she was happy to say yes :)

We have another baptism scheduled but this one's more of a miracle. We taught a lesson to a lady named Vera. She's 70 years old and lives in a little town on a hillside way up high, right in front of a monastery. The town itself is way old and really small so it's more of a village but it is gorgeous!! I took some pictures there. Anyway, we taught Vera about the Plan of Salvation and watched a Mormon Message with her about a member of the Church who lost his wife and some of his kids in a car accident.
 (Watch video here:
Vera lost her husband a few years ago so she was really able to connect with that man and his understanding of the Atonement and the Plan. Vera is really really smart. She understands everything we teach her. I felt that we needed to invite her to be baptized but Sorella Margheriti is the best, she beat me to it! And what do you know, Vera accepted. It's incredible because Sorella Margheriti and her old companion, Sorella Decker, met Vera while tracting somewhere and they weren't expecting her to be interested. But now she's made a lot of progress and here we are! So we're going to keep working with her. She's great! (She also filled us up with biscottini and chocolate and orzo! - 'Orzo is ground toasted barley that Italians use instead of coffee)

Just before I sat down to write my emails here we had an encounter with a man named Alessandro. The shop with the computers was still closed so he asked us about it and then squinted at our nametags. We asked him if he'd seen the missionaries before and he said yes, he lives in Rome and sees them a lot while he's out. But he'd never talked to them! We ended up talking with him about our faith (he's catholic but doesn't go to church) and he was interested in learning more about the Mormon church so he gave us his number and is going to call us so we can meet somewhere. (Sister missionaries can't teach men in their homes unless there's a third woman present and the city of Rome is outside our area so he's just going to come here to Monterotondo and meet us in a public area) So we have good hopes for him too!

Saturday was a bit rough for me. It's been weird getting used to being here and not having my MTC friends around (or any of my friends around at all really) and living with just one other person. It hit me kinda hard that day, and I wasn't having such a good time talking to people. But the next day I read a talk from General Conference ( the Church General Meeting that occurs once every six months where the Prophet, the Apostles and the other General Authorities speak) by Elder Bednar and it really picked me up. He talked about the Atonement and how it makes up for our disappointments and inadequacies and that Christ suffered even those little things that bother us and we feel we can't do right. It put things into perspective for me and since I read that talk I have felt much more confident and at ease here on the mission field. Heavenly Father knows just how to ease our fears and He often does it through His apostles. So thank you Elder Bednar for enlightening me on a bad day. :)

But basically I love it here. And I've been making myself some good food! Sorella Margheriti and I made baked potatoes, turkey, scrambled eggs, roasted vegetables, and a lot of other good stuff since I got here. And after I finish here we're going to an all-you-can-eat-for-just-ten-euros buffet for lunch. It's awesome. And tonight we're having dinner at the famiglia Bruno's house!

A ton of the members in the Rome 5 branch (that's where I go to church on Sunday) said they know my parents because half of them are Sicilian. It was cool cuz they still remember when my dad was branch president. One guy said, "You know you're old when your mission companion's daughter is on a mission." hahaha I don't remember his name though. Sorry Dad!

Ciao for now, I'll be back with the updates next Monday. :)

                               TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

Ciao a tutti!

Pero' in realta' mi piace molto stare qui. Bellissimo!
