Transfer 6, Week 1

Note: The names of the investigators and less-active members have been changed

Alright, this week was great! Teaching investigators has been a struggle (everybody is at the beach and it stinks so bad) but we taught the most less-active member lessons I have EVER taught in one week in my whole mission!!!!! That meant a lot to me. And two of them came to church this Sunday! It was so rewarding! I'm learning to love these people so much, every day.

One of our less-actives, Maria, accepted to get a priesthood blessing after church. The Spirit was really strong! She needed it so badly but she had never felt adequate enough to ask for a blessing. She also needed to go to the hospital after church to get checked out for something so we found a member that could give us all a ride there and we stayed with her while she waited. In the meantime we met a man who was interested in the church and we talked to him for quite some time (well he did most of the talking. It was a trial of my patience haha) and got his number. We also were able to hear Maria's INCREDIBLE life story. She's from Nigeria and she was moved around a lot from house to house when she was little and she got lost in a desert once for four days and almost died and she went on a ship to Ragusa that started to sink and she was pregnant and the last one off the ship but she survived! And now she's here with her husband and her six-year-old son. That's a super condensed version of the story but it's seriously amazing. She has been through so much and she's only 29 years old. We felt really humbled by her faith in God despite all of these trials. We love her so much. :)

Another one of our less-actives invited us over, which was a total surprise! She told us while we were at her house that she always feels better after the sisters come over. We told her that was the Spirit and that she can have it even when we're not around. Unfortunately she won't come to church because she's moving down to the beach for the rest of the summer... Sigh. That's one of the big trials in Ragusa. But it can be worked around! We will try to visit her again soon. Also she says AWESOME prayers.

On Wednesday we got to do some family history work with Monia, one of our members here in Ragusa. She's super passionate about it and she helped us figure out how to use the FamilySearch website better. Sorella Reber went way back on her family tree and found some Native American ancestors with super cool names! She's a whole blend of cultures, it's insane. Me, I'm just Italian. Boring. :D hahaha kidding. But that was a really cool experience because I've always loved family history and I want to work on it much more when I go home.

Funny story. The other day we walked into our house and found half a watermelon sitting on our table and we had no idea how it had gotten there. We were super creeped out and Sorella Reber was like, Oh my gosh it's an evil spirit watermelon... But then we realized that the Chines family had come to fix our blinds and the curtains while we were gone and they have a key to our apartment so it wasn't as sketchy as we had thought. Hahaha they were really cute to leave us that watermelon! We ate it all at once... :)

Friday morning we helped Fratello DiMartino clean the church and he brought us a whole box of white peaches! They were DELICIOUS. I was so happy. We ate like the whole thing between the four of us missionaries. Hahaha so worth it. I put one in the freezer and ate my first frozen peach ever! This is something I'm catching from my comp because she loves frozen fruit.

That night Sorella Reber and I went to Bishop Manzini's house! We tried walking there but it ended up taking so long that Sorella Manzini came to pick us up... Embarrassing. But our legs have been getting so ridiculously strong here with all the walking we're doing... :D Anyway, the Manzinis are a super young family (Bishop is in his thirties!) with two cute little kids and they're great! They helped us out with ideas on how to better serve the ward. It helped me get a little more integrated into this new area. :)

Saturday morning was hectic because we walked for more than an hour to get to sorella Magrograssi's house. It was HOT. And when we got to their street there were a ton of buildings and we couldn't figure out which one it was and we were super late so that sucked... But we came to help her plan a pioneer activity that we're having this Friday so it was all worth it in the end! And they gave us a ride home which was so nice of them. Sorella Magrograssi gave us some really good chocolate and hazelnut gelato with a cookie on top. Cute :)

Sunday was mostly spent waiting at the hospital with Maria and it was exhausting because we had come directly from a lunch appointment with Iolanda and her mom that happened immediately after church which meant we hadn't brought water or food with us... I have never loved water so much in my life. But serving people isn't easy and sometimes you just gotta make the sacrifice for them!

There is so much more I would love to share but I haven't got the time! I love you all and I hope everyone has a great week. Stay cool. :)

                                        TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

Cio' significa molto per me.

Aahah! Sono stati davvero carini a lasciare quell'anguria! L'abbiamo mangiata tutta in una volta... :)
