Transfer 4, Week 2

Note: The names of the investigators have been changed

The rest of this week was pretty interesting, I would say.

The weekend was pretty rough for us. We woke up on Saturday not feeling very motivated and pretty spiritually dampened and it carried over for quite some time... Luckily we had four lessons to teach that day and I honestly am very grateful to the Lord for all of those opportunities because I'm not sure how much work we would have gotten done otherwise. It was strange. We don't usually have days like that, but with the ups of the mission come the downs. I'm not sure personally what was wrong with me, I think it was a mix of stress and frustration with our investigators who aren't progressing. And while we did finding nobody seemed to want to talk to us and that really stunk. Aside from that I was physically tired even though I'd slept enough. Huh. We actually napped after lunch and slept for quite a bit and we woke up feeling nauseous and deflated...

We saw Marta after lunch and she was able to lift us up a bit, probably without even realizing it. :) That evening we saw Ellen and did a follow-up of the Restoration. She had read some of the Book of Mormon and she wanted us to help her understand it better!! We read the introduction with her and she said it was very clear and that she would go home and continue praying about it. She really wants to know if it's true. She said when she prayed about it before that she felt normal, not any different. So we explained to her that oftentimes the Spirit communicates by giving us a sense of peace. It doesn't have to be a vision or something remarkable like that. Ellen seemed reassured and she said she wanted to show the Book of Mormon to one of her friends!! That was incredible! She has a lot of great potential. Getting her to church might be an obstacle because she goes to hers on Sunday and she says going to church twice in a day is too much so... we'll see how we can help.

We had started fasting earlier that afternoon so that and the lessons with Marta and Ellen helped us get back on our feet for sure. I'm so grateful for that. :) And Sunday was a big spiritual boost. Being with the members and hearing their testimonies and the teachings in the classes recharged our batteries for the week. And this week we have a lot of things planned so I hope that, with a lot of diligence and obedience on our part, we will see the fruits of our labors. :)

We had an AMAZING experience doing finding at a mercatino artigianale (artisan open market) right by our house Sunday afternoon. We were about to get on the train when we felt that we needed to turn back and do finding there instead. We went to the mercatino and talked to the people at EVERY single bancarella!! We were there for two and a half hours! But two of the people that we talked to really stood out to us. One was a woman named Laura whose daughter had been stopped by the anziani in Terni a couple weeks ago and she was really open with us. She told us she'd lost her husband and she started to cry and we bore her testimony that families can be eternal and that there's a life waiting for us after this one. We gave her a card with the Rome temple on it and told her that we would love to teach her, that we felt that it would really help her and her family. She's really busy so that made us sad but we felt this incredible connection with her that I'm never going to forget. We did manage to get a picture with Laura and her daughters before leaving. :)

The other person was Michele. It was funny, he was selling liquors and wanted us to try them so we told him that we don't drink that stuff and he was like, What!!! Why!!! So that got us into explaining who we were and in the end we found out that he's always struggled with faith and that he just wants to be able to have a testimony like we do. He was really interested in our message. He wasn't so sure about taking the lessons because he understood that it's a life decision and that it's serious but he has our number and I hope that someday the missionaries will find him again, if not us.

If there's one thing I absolutely love about being a missionary it's the love you feel for people within seconds of meeting them. You just have this ridiculous desire to share the gospel because you're aware of the blessings it has given you and you find yourself sincerely caring about their spiritual and physical well-being, even though you've just barely met them! I love it. It really lets me forget myself and go to work. Even when I have a bad day like I did this week the fact that I have people to go visit and teach forces me to stop being selfish and put other people's needs before my own.

It's hard to approach people and start talking about these kinds of things, especially for me (I was a really shy child. I've come a long way since then but my introverted tendencies come back sometimes and make it hard for me to approach people) but I've noticed how much progress I've made in just five months of being on my mission and I'm so grateful that I'm not the same person I was when I first stepped off the plane in Rome. This work belongs to the Lord and I'm honored to be in His service.

Have a great week everyone! Un abbraccio! ♥

Mi fa davvero dimenticare me stessa e mi spinge a lavorare

Buona settimana a tutti! Un abbraccio! ♥
