Transfer 10, Week 8

WOW, what a whirlwind this week has been. I've scarcely had the time to breathe. Sorella Rossi planned 383748383 appointments so she could say goodbye to people and we also needed to get everything ready for our new companions, so I was running left and right all week with zero time to think twice about it! Add that to the stress that comes from preparing to train and you'll be able to imagine my state of mind. BUT. My greenie has arrived, the work schedule is back to normal, and miracles are happening!

So! Sorella Bicchierri is from Vicenza, I met her sister when she was a teacher at the Madrid MTC (small world!), she got baptized two years ago, and I love her to death. She's so awesome! She really wants to work hard and have a fantastic eighteen months here in the Rome Mission. We've found that our personalities are really similar, which has made it much easier to communicate and work out problems right away. And there's a great mutual respect and willingness to collaborate between us. We're a power team in progress! This transfer I'm studying the Christlike attribute of hope, and it's quite fitting. There are a lot of great people to teach here and there will be many opportunities for both of us to grow as missionaries.

So, on to the work! We went to Elisa's house on Friday and before we even sat down to study English with Barbara, Elisa asked what we were going to share with her! We started teaching the Restoration right away, and little Barbara listened for the first couple minutes as well. Elisa was all ears. Sergio (Barbara's dad) came in as we were teaching, surprise #2! He listened kind of absentmindedly but he was totally tranquillo (chill). When we finished talking about the Book of Mormon and handed Elisa a copy she said, "Can we read the introduction?" I stared at her and tried not to look as dumbfounded as I felt and said of course, so we read it and invited her to read and pray to know if it's true. And she said yes! Surprise #3. And then surprise #4: Sergio says jokingly, "Elisa, why don't you become a Mormon?" She just looks at him and smiles, as if she knows something he doesn't. There is no doubt in my mind that she felt the Spirit as we taught! I still can't wrap my head around what happened that night, but I know it was nothing short of a miracle!! Elisa is open and willing to accept the truth, and that's what's going to make all the difference in this family. I love them. So much.

Last night we went to visit Lara and Silvia. We decided to start small by talking about faith. We talked about Alma's description of faith as a seed and how faith can help you do lots of everyday things, not just in terms of religion. Silvia prays but she doesn't know what she believes in, and Lara thinks something is probably there, but she's a very rational person and doesn't feel the need to grow her faith. But they're open to all religions and they like our lessons, and last night we felt impressed to talk to them about families and the plan of salvation for the next time we visit. I think that's what will get them interested in God and the restored gospel. I have a deep love for them as well, and Sorella Bicchierri can tell there are great things ahead for them. :)

Silvia told me what music she's been into lately so I gave her a list of bands to look up. That was a nice plus. Hahaha! She's so funny, Sorella Bicchierri adores her already!

We also taught Valeria again, but this time we had the lesson in church (miracle, I wasn't sure she'd accept to meet us there) and it totally changed the outcome! We had been meeting with her in centro (center of the city) but decided to stop that because it was super distracting and not a good atmosphere for the Spirit at all. We also invited a member, Eride, to the lesson, and she really helped. We taught Valeria the Restoration (she remembered some of it but we felt the need to go over it again) in an attempt to gauge her interest and understanding of why we're here and what our purpose is. What we understood from that lesson is that Valeria doesn't believe churches are necessary and that she believes a lot of different things, but they tend to contrast. She has a lot of voices telling her to take several different directions and she can't identify the right path because of that. We're going to take very small steps with her. But she accepted the copy of the Book of Mormon we gave her and we invited her to start reading it and to pray to know if it really is the word of God.

We saw Aurelia as well and talked about The Family: A Proclamation to the World. For those of you who don't know about it, it's a document published by the leaders of our church in 1995 that declares the sanctity of the family as ordained of God and describes the responsibilities mothers and fathers and children have in the home. It's wonderfully written and so applicable to today's society, and Aurelia loved it. She really needs the Plan of Salvation, but she asks so many questions and has so many concerns that we're going to take it a small step at a time. We invited her to come to church but she didn't come, so I think we need to address the importance of that as well. She would be an amazing member! We're praying hard for her.

Tomorrow is zone conference and we're going to be performing a musical number that I was asked to pull together last-minute so... Wish me luck! Shout out to the amazing missionaries in my district who will be doing it with me. :)

I really, really love being in Cagliari. Figuring out the bus system hasn't been as terrifying as I expected, training is teaching me tons, and the work is moving along. I'm glad to be here. :)

Mamma mia, che turbinio che e' stata questa settimana! Ho avuto a stento il tempo di respirare. Sorella Rossi ha fissato 383748383 appuntamenti per poter salutare le persone e abbiamo anche dovuto avere tutto pronto per le nostre colleghe cosi' ho dovuto correre a destra e a sinistra tutta la settimana senza avere il tempo di pensarci due volte! Aggiungete a questo lo stress che viene dall'idea di doversi preparare ad addestrare di nuovo e potrete capire il mio stato mentale. MA. La mia verdina e' arrivata, il programma di lavoro e' di nuovo normale e i miracoli stanno accadendo!

Allora! Sorella Bicchierri e' di Vicenza, ho incontrato sua sorella quando era insegnante al MTC di Madrid ( mondo piccolo!), si e' battezzata due anni fa e le voglio bene da morire. E' cosi' fantastica! Vuole davvero lavorare duro e vuole passare diciotto mesi fantastici qui nella Missione di Roma. Abbiamo scoperto di avere personalita' molto simili il che ha reso molto piu' facile comunicare e risolvere i problemi da subito. E c'e' un grande rispetto reciproco e una grande volonta' di collaborare tra di noi. Siamo una potente squadra in via di formazione! In questo trasferimento sto studiando la qualita' cristiana della speranza e calza a pennello. Ci sono tante persone in gamba a cui insegnare e ci saranno molte opportunita' per noi due di crescere come missionarie.

Allora, al lavoro! Siamo andate da Elisa venerdi' e prima ancora di sederci a studiare inglese con Barbara, Elisa ci ha chiesto che cosa avremmo condiviso con lei! Abbiamo iniziato a insegnare la Restaurazione li' per li' e la piccola Barbara ha anche ascoltato per i primi minuti. Elisa era tutta orecchie. Sergio (il padre di Barbara) e' entrato mentre stavamo insegnando, sopresa #2! Ha ascoltato distrattamente ma era completamente tranquillo. Quando abbiamo finito di parlare del Libro di Mormon e abbiamo dato ad Elisa una copia, ha detto " Possiamo leggere l'introduzione?" l'ho fissata e ho cercato di non sembrare sbalordita e le ho detto sicuramente cosi' l'abbiamo letta e invitata a leggere e a pregare per sapere se e' vero. E lei ha detto di si'! Sorpresa #3. E poi sorpresa #4: Sergio ha detto scherzando, " Elisa, perche' non diventi Mormone?" Lei lo ha guardato e ha sorriso come se sapesse qualcosa che lui non sapeva. Non ho dubbi che lei abbia sentito lo Spirito mentre insegnavamo! Ancora non riesco a capacitarmi di quanto sia successo quella sera ma so che non era niente di meno di un miracolo!!! Elisa e' aperta e desiderosa di accettare la verita' e cio' e' tutto quello che puo' fare la differenza in questa famiglia. Li amo. Tanto.

Ieri sera siamo andate da Lara e Silvia. Abbiamo deciso di iniziare con qualcosa di semplice parlando della fede. Abbiamo parlato della descrizione che fa Alma della fede come di un seme e di come la fede ci puo' aiutare a fare un sacco di cose quotidianamente, non solo in ambito religioso. Silvia prega ma non sa in cosa crede e Lara pensa che probabilmete ci sia qualcosa ma e' una persona molto razionale e non sente il bisogno di far crescere la sua fede. Ma sono aperte a tutte le religioni e a loro piacciono le nostre lezioni e ieri sera abbiamo sentito che dovevamo parlare con loro delle famiglie e del piano di salvezza la prossima volta che ci vedremo. Penso che questo sia cosa possa farle destare interesse in Dio e nel vangelo restaurato. Ho un profondo amore anche per loro e Sorella Bicchierri puo' dire che ci sono grandi cose in serbo per loro.

Silvia mi ha parlato di che tipo di musica ha ascoltato di recente cosi' le ho dato una lista di complessi da ascoltare. Quella e' stata una cosa bella in piu'. Ahahah! E' cosi' divertente, Sorella Bicchierri gia' l'adora!  

Abbiamo anche insegnato di nuovo a Valeria ma questa volta lo abbiamo fatto in chiesa (miracolo, non ero sicura che avrebbe accettato di incontrarci li') e ha completamente cambiato l'esito delle cose! Ci siamo sempre incontrate con lei in centro ma avevamo deciso di non farlo piu' perche' era troppo distraente e non creava per niente una buona atmosfera per lo Spirito. Abbiamo anche invitato un membro, Eride, alla lezione e ha aiutato molto. Abbiamo insegnato a Valeria la Restaurazione ( ne ricordava una parte ma abbiamo sentito il bisogno di rivederla di nuovo) nel tentativo di valutare il suo interesse e la sua comprensione del perche' siamo qui e di quale sia il nostro scopo. Cosa abbiamo capito da quella lezione e' che Valeria non crede che le chiese siano necessarie e che crede un sacco di cose diverse ma che tendono ad essere in contrasto. E' sottoposta a diverse voci che le dicono di prendere tante direzioni diverse e non riesce ad identificare quella giusta a causa di cio'. Faremo tanti piccoli passi con lei. Ma ha accettato la copia del Libro di Mormon che le abbiamo dato e l'abbiamo invitata a cominciare a leggerlo e a pregare per sapere se sia davvero la parola di Dio.

Abbiamo visto anche Aurelia e abbiamo parlato di "La Famiglia: Un Proclama Al Mondo". Per quelli che non sanno cosa sia, si tratta di un documento pubblicato dai dirigenti della nostra chiesa nel 1995 che dichiara la santita' della famiglia come ordinata da Dio e descrive le responsabilita' che le madri e i padri hanno nella casa. E' scritto meravigliosamente bene ed e' cosi' applicabile alla nostra societa' odierna e Aurelia l'ama. Ha proprio bisogno del Piano di Salvezza ma fa anche tante domande e ha tante preoccupazioni che faremo un passetto alla volta. L'abbiamo invitata a venire in chiesa ma non e' venuta cosi' penso che dovremo parlare anche dell'importanza di questo. Sarebbe un membro eccezionale! Stiamo pregando tanto per lei.

Domani c'e' la conferenza di zona e faremo un numero musicale di cui sono stata incaricata all'ultimo momento cosi'... Auguratemi buona fortuna! Urra' per gli stupendi missionari del mio distretto che lo faranno con me. :)

Davvero, davvero amo stare a Cagliari. Cercare di capire come funzionano le linee degli autobus non e' stato cosi' terrificante come mi aspettavo, addestrare mi sta insegnando tanto  e il lavoro procede. Sono contenta di essere qui. :)
