Christmas week 2014!

Another great week here in Rome!

It feels like yesterday that I was writing my last blog post.. Time goes way too fast here. In a few days I'll have been on my mission for a month so I'm kind of wondering where the time went. So I'm doing my best to not waste a single minute!

Last Tuesday we had a zone conference in Rome ( link to pictures here http://sorellabattezzato.blogspot.com/2014/12/first-zone-conference.html) and that was great! It was good to see the other missionaries and to hear their testimonies. The greenies (the missionaries that have just arrived) always bear their testimonies at their first zone conference so I got to do that. In Italian. I don't think I've ever shared my testimony in Italian so I was nervous but it went well! And the other greenies were SUPER good at Italian. They learned it in the MTC so I'm way proud of them. Italian is not an easy language to learn.

I finally got to see Sorella Cano after the zone conference!! I hadn't seen her since we went to Catania in July so that was suuuper fun. I took a picture of her with Sorella Vickers (who totally looks like Katy Perry. I always remind her that she does and she likes it. Hahaha) but I don't have a picture with her on my camera... Whoops :D

Wednesday was SUPER FUN! I got to teach my first English course on the mission field and everyone there was awesome! The class is mostly grandmas but they're all so sweet and sassy and it was fun to pronounce words in my American English and hear them try to sound them out with their Italian accents. They all did great. :) Sorella Margheriti has the pictures we took so I'll try to get those from her.

After the English course we raced to the car to meet with Vera (one of our investigators) so we could get in her car and keep her company while she drove all of us to the Christmas activity in church. We went with her because she wasn't sure about driving at night but as missionaries we can't give people rides in our car so we were surprised that she accepted to drive her car as long as we were with her! We were praying really hard that Vera would be able to come to the activity so this was a big miracle for us. She had a great time and she totally felt the Spirit.

The Christmas program itself was great! The Primary sang songs and acted out the Nativity and they were all so cute. Our branch has a ton of little kids and if you know me you know how much I love little kids so... church is basically heaven for me. :) Us missionaries also sang a hymn and it sounded awesome! I give Anziano Gardenhier super props for being a really good tenor cuz that's probably the hardest part to sing.

After the Christmas program we had a yummy dinner! It was basically pizza but the pizza here comes in sooo many varieties and sorry America, but your pizza is nothing compared to this. Hahaha I had like five different kinds. :) For dessert there were some fruit tarts and Pandoro!!!! Pandoro is my absolute favorite! I may have had too much, I couldn't help myself. Ha. :)

Funny story for y'all. On Thursday I stopped to talk to a kid roughly my age about our English course when this other guy comes out of nowhere and goes, "Are you guys Mormons?" When we said yes he started saying all this terrible stuff he "knew" about the Church and it was super annoying. Luckily me and Sorella Margheriti stayed calm and didn't argue with him. He ended up walking with us to our train and all we did really was listen to his opinions and then we bore testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and that they were real and that they love him, no matter what he thinks. He couldn't deny what we knew. I hope it helped him. It was scary for me to talk to someone who hated the LDS church so much but I hope someday he'll be willing to let the Spirit teach him instead of the stuff he reads on the Internet.. haha. :D

Oh big news!! I gave away my FIRST Book of Mormon here in Italy this week!! That morning I felt that I should probably take a copy with me because I didn't usually. I wasn't expecting to do anything with it but hunches are important when you're a missionary so I took it anyway. We were on the train later and sat across from a young lady who was totally looking at us with this curious look on her face. I decided to talk to her and it ended up that I pulled out the Book of Mormon and explained the story of Nephi to her and she just took it all in, she was so interested! I was dumb and didn't get her contact info but I definitely felt that she had been prepared by the Lord to hear what we had to say! I always make sure to carry a Book of Mormon with me now. And just a few minutes later Sorella Margheriti gave a Book of Mormon to a different lady. Blessiiiings!!! We were super stoked about that.

Also, Precious came to church yesterday. That was SWEET. She doesn't speak much Italian so I translated for her and it wasn't even that hard! She enjoyed it and she wants to come back next Sunday. :)

One last thing, the missionaries and the YSA (Young Single Adults) got together in Rome on Saturday at the Piazza del Popolo to sing Christmas hymns! It was way fun. We started singing and a bunch of people stopped to listen to us and every time we finished a song they would start clapping. Some of them looked like they were really feeling something while we sang. :) There's such a special spirit that comes with Christmas hymns. I was glad to be able to help share that with people.

There was a reporter there taking tons of pictures of us so hopefully I'll find out how to get a hold of those!

Time's running out so I gotta fly but... things here are basically just awesome! I'm loving every second. I hope you all have a merry Christmas and remember to seek out Christ, as mentioned in Ether 12:41. ( And now, I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever. Amen.) He's the reason we have this holiday but more importantly, he is the gift. He is our key to eternal life. I love him and I am always thankful to him for sacrificing himself for me and for all of you.

Once again, Merry Christmas!

                                        TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

In italiano.

Sono state bravissime!

Benedizioni!!! Eravamo molto emozionate!

Precious e' venuta in chiesa ieri.

Ancora, Buon Natale!
