Transfer 9, Week 3

Note: The names of the investigators have been changed

I am getting transferred this Thursday to... CAGLIARI!!!!! It's a port city on the island of Sardegna. My new companion is... SORELLA ROSSI!!!!!!!!! We went to the Madrid MTC together a year ago and I can't believe we're actually going to be serving together!!! I told President I didn't believe him when he called me on Saturday, it was just too good to be true. And yet it is. :) That's not all though! President told me I'm going to be an STL, which stands for Sister Training Leader and is basically the female equivalent of a zone leader. Except there aren't two STLs in Sardegna as with other zones... It's just me!! That is so scary haha. I never expected to STL by myself. But I can do it. :) And what's more... Sorella McPheters (one of my comps in Rome 5) is up north in Sassari and since I'm an STL, not only will I see her at zone conference on Friday... I get to do a comp exchange with her!!!!!! We get to serve together AGAIN for a day! CRAZY! I am so so so incredibly hyped about this next transfer, I don't even know what to do with myself. :)

This past week was kind of a blur. When you're in an area this long it gets hard to differentiate between days. :) We were able to meet with Pina (my last lesson with her... so sad...) with fratello and sorella Chines and it went really, really well. We dedicated the lesson to the Spirit and talked about how all of us have the light of Christ within us. It's up to us to let the Spirit grow that light! Pina seemed to really appreciate the lesson. She told us that she often thinks about the things we teach her during the week. She almost called us the night before to tell us she was too busy to have us over but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. That was really cool to hear. She says she has half her answer about whether this Church is true though!! And she's aware that the adversary is really fighting her hard to keep her from getting close to the Church. Pina has a spiritual awareness that surpasses most people I've taught on my mission... It's rare to find people like her here. The last person like her that I taught was Franca and she got baptized. So Pina is making small steps but she knows she's making it. :) She's not really sure about Joseph Smith and the whole story of the First Vision and the Book of Mormon so that's something Sorella Holiday will be working on with Sorella Roberts (her new companion who is fantastic and who we both knew already!!!). :) I have loved teaching Pina and I know she is being left in good hands.

We were supposed to meet with Fabio but he never showed up... His phone has been off and if it does ring he doesn't pick up so I don't think I'll get to teach him again before I leave. I'm just glad and feel so blessed that we found him again and that I did get to teach him for a little while.

We have two new investigators from Romania: Alina and Cristina. Irina has a daughter with the same name who we were teaching English to and Cristina is a family friend who we happened to meet one day while visiting Alina. There's a bit of a language barrier with Alina because she has a very thick Romanian accent when she speaks Italian and she doesn't always understand what we say when we talk about the gospel so... not sure how much progress she'll be able to make. She lives with a Sicilian man named Michele who was nice to us but wants to hear absolutely nothing about religion so we just visit Alina well before he comes home from work!! Cristina is married with two daughters who are living in Romania and she's been in Italy for 20 years so her Italian is very good. She's the more interested of the two in the Church. We gave her a Book of Mormon and the Restoration pamphlet in Romanian and she started flipping through and reading them right away! Cristina pointed out that when they left Romania it was as if they had left their God there because going to church in Italy with a totally different culture is so foreign to them, they don't really feel at home. It was sad to hear that. So this is their biggest concern with investigating a new church. They had agreed to come to church yesterday and we had a ride arranged for them but they didn't show up and didn't answer the phone when we called them so... not sure what's going to happen there. Sorella Holiday will let me know how it goes for sure :)

Side note: I got a haircut for the first time on my mission. That's right, I'm an animal! But not anymore! ;) Fratello Lo Monaco (our ward mission leader) used to have a salon so he cut my hair in literally fifteen minutes, layers and everything. He was so fast I hardly had time to breathe. And he did such a good job too! I owe him one!

As far as the rest of the work goes, everyone else we taught was a potential. We have a lot of new contacts from doing casa-finding that Sorella Holiday will follow up on! I'm sad I won't be here to see the progress in Ragusa anymore but I know the Lord has other great plans for me in Cagliari. :) I can't wait to report on my new area next week! Wishing all of you a great seven days. :) (Also, 18 days 'til Christmas!) Alla prossima!

                               TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

E' raro trovare persone come lei qui.

:) (Solo 18 giorni fino a Natale!) Alla prossima!
