Transfer 12, Week 4

Note: The names of the investigators have been changed

This week we did a scambio (companion exchange) with the Sassari sorelle here in Cagliari! We had several appointments planned and several people cancelled on us at the last minute, but we soon learned that the Lord had other plans in mind for us. Sorella Littlefield and I did some knocking on doors and found a family that invited us to come back another time and we got a phone number from a woman at the bus stop who wanted to know more about the Book of Mormon! Sorella Moro and I had a lesson with a potential investigator planned and practiced a lot before leaving the house. The potential didn't show up (we later found out that her family doesn't approve of her meeting with us...) but we were really prepared. I think the main thing the sorelle took from the scambio was how to talk to people on the street. Had we gone to all the appointments we had planned they wouldn't have had as much experience with that. It was a great learning experience for all of us!

Unfortunately a lot of our investigators were too busy to meet with us, but two are currently progressing! One is a new investigator from this week. Her name is Vittoria, she's about 24 years old, and she used to take the missionary lessons from Sorella Knight and Sorella Na Bita. We called her a few weeks ago and she was really enthusiastic and willing to meet with us! We taught her the first time last week and the second lesson (which we had this week) was the Restoration. We really focused on asking a lot of questions and sharing the teaching more between the two of us. The results were amazing! Vittoria said a lot of thought-out things and she told us she had read the introduction to the Book of Mormon! She didn't feel anything while she read, so we asked her if she'd prayed before reading, and she said no. She had read it like she would read a textbook. So we challenged her to read it again, this time with a prayer before and after reading. Once she feels the Spirit and starts getting answers I think she'll progress rapidly. We invited her to come to church but she didn't come, and she did mention she doesn't feel ready to be part of a new community. In other words, she's scared. She's spending P-day with us tomorrow, so this will warm her up a bit. :)

Anna is our second progressing investigator! She read the title page of the Book of Mormon and took notes on a blank page to keep track of the Nephites and the Lamanites and other basic things she learned about the Book of Mormon! We were amazed at how much she wants to understand it! We explained to her that she won't understand everything the first time and that a testimony of the Book of Mormon is much more important to the Lord than a perfect knowledge of it. We invited her to finish reading the introduction and continue praying about it. She didn't come to church and she admitted that she feels a little embarrassed during the lessons. She's never been very religious so feeling the Spirit and being taught lessons is all new for her. Of course it's uncomfortable! We reassured her that she's doing the right thing. :)

We had an amazing, amazing miracle happen this week. I mentioned earlier that when Sorella Littlefield and I were knocking on doors a family told us to come back another time. I went back to the address a couple days later with Sorella Bicchierri and an older woman opened her window to see who was outside. She was very hostile and said some pretty rude things to us. And yet somehow as we talked she became less  aggressive and before we knew it she was telling us all about her life and even laughing and making sarcastic (but funny) comments! She told us she didn't know how, but that we'd lightened her mood and brought her some peace. It was awesome. We invited her to pray that night and ask God if He's there and promised her she would feel His love. I blew her a kiss when we left and she blew me one right back! After a couple more days we went back. Her husband came to the window but nobody opened it and nobody answered the door... But we were feeling brave so we stood outside for maybe three minutes and waited for someone to come out. Sure enough, the lady from last time opened the door and said, "Well, aren't you persistent! I'm busy, you can leave! Are you going to come back here every day now?" It was super scary but somehow we knew what to say and we made her crack a smile once again. And guess what. She prayed! She didn't get an answer but we told her to not give up. And then we told her one of us might get transferred, so if it happened we would come back to say goodbye. We also told her that we only came back because we loved her. :) Only after we left did we realize that this time she trusted us enough to open the door instead of talking to us through a window. We've seen a mighty change of heart in her in just the two times we've talked to her! I don't know what will happen next, but I can tell there's an important reason why God wanted us to meet her when we did.

We're inviting everyone to the two baptisms the anziani are having this Saturday! The ward is so excited!! I'm so glad! It's going to be an amazing week. :) And today is Anziano Borden's birthday so we're going to the beach! Woohoo!

Transfer calls are on Saturday. I think my last transfer on the mission is going to be elsewhere... But we'll see.

A presto!

                              TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

In altre parole, è spaventata.

A presto!
