Transfer 4, Week 6

Note: The names of the investigators have been changed

This week was straight weirdness. I am so disoriented from transfers!! Sorella McPheters is finally here and man, she is awesome! I was pretty nervous about switching companions but since I first met her at the metro in Rome I knew we'd get along. :) She loves the work and her Italian is seriously impressive, even though this is only her third transfer in Italy. I love it! And she loves having a second Italian companion (her trainer was Italian as well) so I think the language won't be a problem here. :) Gift of tongues. It's a real thing. Anyway, she's picking up on the work here really quick and the members are already getting to love her and I just see a lot of potential in this area this transfer! Go Rome 5! I'm queen of this place, I've been here so long... hahahaha.

It's been hard for me to adjust to being here without Sorella Margheriti. We had become a really strong team and we've become the best of friends after all these transfers together but... the Lord needed her in another area and Sorella McPheters needed to come here. So I'm adapting as quickly and faithfully as I can and if I work hard the Lord will make up for my imperfections. That's how it works! :) Also, Anziano Pace (he took Anziano Bellows's place) is a really great missionary and I can tell our group here in Rome 5 is gonna thrive. There's a great energy between all of us and we're already great friends! So I'm excited for this transfer, davvero (really)!

We said goodbye to a lot of people this week so I don't have much to say about the investigators, except for... Diana! She accepted to be baptized and we presented her with a baptismal date! That made her kinda nervous, she doesn't think she'll be ready by then but she understands that if she needs to we'll move it, there's no pressure there. She is so spiritual and ready to learn, and she has so many questions that just strengthen my testimony of how much people need the gospel. I am so excited. I love her so much!

Marilena and Suli got baptized this past Saturday! They've been taking lessons from our anziani for a couple transfers now. They're really amazing. Marilena bore her testimony after the baptism and the Spirit was really strong. You could definitely tell how happy she was, she was basically radiating. :) She and her son will be a strong addition to the Church, no doubt there.

Also, I stopped a man during finding the other day and whaddaya know, he was GERMAN. WOOHOO I talked to him in his mother tongue and it was great. Except I realized how pitiful my spoken grammar has become so I decided that when I go back to BYU I'm signing up for an advanced German class immediately because I cannot speak like that for the rest of my life. Seriously. Hahaha! And there was a German family on the train that I was totally eavesdropping on, I was just happy to hear someone speaking that language! I don't know why I like it so much. It's just a part of me. Seven years of studying a language you love does that to you. :)

Funny story! Sorella McPheters has no sense of shame or awkwardness at all when it comes to stopping ragazzi (guys). She's determined to grow our English Course here in Rome 5 so yesterday during finding she called out "Buonaseraaaa! Voi parlate inglese?!" (Good evening! Do you speak English?) to EVERY teenager she saw and she just started talking about English Course while I stood next to her mortified and wanting to hide behind a bush! Hahaha I don't know how she does it. Italian kids scare me, there isn't even an explanation for it. But I think she'll break me of this awful thing. Sorella Margheriti already did a good job of starting the process. ;)

Oh, here's a miracle!!! Yesterday night we came home early to do some phone calls and I felt like calling a contact from like three transfers ago. His name is Roberto and he has a 10-year-old daughter named Olivia. I think I mentioned them a bunch of blog posts ago. Anyway, Roberto answered after a few rings and when I asked if he'd like to see us he said sure, anything that has to do with religion interests him. And before I knew it he was telling me about some family problems he's been having lately and he just sounded really discouraged and sad. I thought he wasn't actually interested in seeing us but suddenly he asked, "So what do you do during these meetings with people?" And by the end of the phone call we had a teaching appointment! I was AMAZED! His family needs the gospel so badly and all of a sudden the Lord has given us the chance to give that to them. I am so happy. This is why missionary work is so rewarding.

I had to give a talk in church on Sunday about service. I was dying all week because I had no idea what to say but then Saturday morning the Spirit totally illuminated my mind and I took notes like crazy and when I got up to talk on Sunday I knew EXACTLY what to say, I didn't talk too fast, I didn't blush or get shaky, and I just felt good. It was awesome!

One last thing: the Church is true. And that is why I'm here. :)

                                       TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

Non so perche' mi piaccia tanto. E' proprio parte di me.

Ahahah, non so come faccia. I giovani italiani mi spaventano, non so nenche spiegare perche'.

Awesome cactus shirt I found in Rome! This one's for Anziano Gay. He always calls me cactus cuz of my cactus sweater.

Funny story. We were walking towards the villa to say goodbye to the dying missionaries and all of a sudden we started seeing them EVERYWHERE. The best entrance was that of Anziano Romano in his car full of anziani.... haha he yelled at Anziano Calvagna from the car until we turned around and it was seriously so funny, you just had to be there!/ Da ridere.
