Transfer 8, Week 3

This week was a bit of a struggle. None of our investigators were able to see us and neither were most of our less-actives... although we were finally able to to see Maria again!! We visited her in her new home and it went so well. There was a very positive spirit there and you could tell Maria was more at peace. She is still having trouble sleeping at night but she's still going strong. She expressed so much gratitude for the help we were able to give her while Sorella Reber was here and she was very warm and welcoming towards Sorella Holiday. And her son Sam was as crazy and happy as always! He wouldn't come talk to Sorella Holiday at first because he was shy but he would act silly and then run away when she looked at him. Hahaha :) We always feel so at home when we're with Maria and Sam. We can't wait to go back!

We had two of our less-active sisters in church yesterday! It was so great! I hadn't seen one of them in several months and we had been trying to call her for weeks without any luck. We found out her phone charger had broken and she was never home when we called her home phone, so that mystery got solved at last. :)

There's a less-active family that we just started working with who we were having trouble contacting for our next visit so we were afraid they were mad at us or something and didn't want to answer the phone. We tried calling again the other day and found out they had run out of minutes and couldn't call us back until they got more. Phew!!!! We're visiting them tomorrow. Super excited!

We visited a lot of member families this week and taught them the Restoration lesson. It went great! We had a lot of discussion about what the Restoration means to them and each family thanked us for bringing them back to when they first joined the church and dusting off their testimonies. It was really rewarding to hear that! Most members in Italy are converts. I'm always amazed at how much they have had to sacrifice to become members of the Church of Jesus Christ, and to stay strong and active. I admire them so much.

Great news that I almost forgot to tell: we gave a Book of Mormon to a lady who comes to English Course!!!!! Her name is Marilena. She started coming pretty recently. During the spiritual thought we had shared the day we gave her the Book we showed the class a video of President Uchtdorf bearing testimony of Jesus Christ. In the video he mentioned the Book of Mormon, which Marilena noticed and brought up when she came to talk to us afterwards. She asked if she could have one and when we told her we give them out for free and that she could keep it she was surprised! There's another woman, Cristina, who wants a Book of Mormon as well, so we'll give her one this Tuesday. Another woman, Antonella, came to watch Conference for a bit and seems super interested in the gospel so altogether we currently have three great potential investigators just from English Course!!! We are so so so excited! I hope to have updates on them next week. Please pray for them!

On Sunday we had lunch with Sorella Campo and Iolanda. They filled us up with various assortments of chocolate... It was good. Also Sorella Campo is a great cook. Italians just are. :D That evening we saw them again because they gave us a ride to the hospital to visit our bishop's little boy. They can't figure out what's wrong with him so everyone is pretty worried, but during our visit Bishop's son was running around and seemed really happy. It was good to see that. :) Bishop and his wife were there too so we had a good time chatting with them!

On Saturday Sorella Cascone, one of our members, presented a book of poetry she just published. Six or seven of her friends/coworkers came and we were able to talk to them about our missions and invited them to our ward Halloween party this week! Sorella Cascone and her husband gave them a little tour of the church and these women were just floored. They loved it so much! Later that evening I heard one of them say, "This place really rejuvenates the soul!" Well, there's more where that came from... :) It was a great missionary opportunity for us and for the members present at the book presentation. I love this work!!!

Our ward is really fantastic. We have had so much support from the members and they're always willing to help us out. We're so very blessed!!!

This week was definitely not easy, but we have big plans for the coming week. I'm really looking forward to it! So until next time :)

  NOTA: Il nome dei simpatizzanti  e' stato cambiato.

Questa settimana e' stata un po' combattuta. Nessuno dei nostri simpatizzanti ci ha potuto incontrare e neppure la maggior parte dei nostri inattivi... anche se siamo riuscite finalmente a vedere di nuovo Maria! Siamo andate a trovarla nella sua nuova casa ed e' andata molto bene. C'era uno spirito molto positivo li' e si poteva capire che Maria era piu' in pace con se stessa. Sta avendo ancora problemi  a dormire la notte ma va ancora alla grande. Ha espresso molta gratitudine per l'aiuto che abbiamo potuto darle quando Sorella Reber era li' ed e' stata molto calorosa e ospitale con Sorella Holiday. E suo figlio Sam e' stato matto e felice come sempre! Non voleva venire a parlare con Sorella Holiday all'inizio perche' era timido ma si comportava buffamente e poi scappava quando lei lo guardava. Ahahahah :) Ci sentiamo sempre cosi' a casa quando siamo con Maria e Sam. Non vediamo l'ora di ritornare!

Ieri sono venute in chiesa due delle nostre sorelle inattive! E' stato cosi' bello! Non vedevo una di loro da parecchi mesi e abbiamo cercato di chiamarla per settimane senza alcuna fortuna. Abbiamo scoperto  che il carica-batteria del suo telefono si era rotto  e che lei non era mai a casa quando la chiamavamo al telefono fisso, cosi' quel mistero alla fine si e' risolto. :)

   C'e' una famiglia inattiva con cui abbiamo appena incominciato a lavorare che avevamo problemi a contattare cosi' temevamo che ce l'avessero con noi per qualche motivo e che non volevano rispondere al telefono. Abbiamo provato a chiamare di nuovo l'altro giorno e abbiamo scoperto che avevano finito i minuti e che non potevano chiamarci fino a che non ne hanno avuti di piu'. Meno male!!!! Li andremo a trovare domani. Sono super emozionata!

Abbiamo visitato un sacco di famiglie di membri questa settimana  e abbiamo insegnato a loro la lezione sulla Restaurazione. E' andata benissimo! Abbiamo discusso a lungo su cosa significhi la Restaurazione per loro e tutte le famiglie ci hanno ringraziato di averli riportati indietro a quando si sono uniti alla chiesa e di aver rispolverato le loro testimonianze. E' stato molto gratificante sentirlo! La maggior parte dei membri in Italia sono convertiti. Sono sempre strabiliata per quanto devono  aver sacrificato per diventare membri della Chiesa di Gesu' Cristo e per rimanere forti e attivi. Li ammiro tanto.

Grande notizia che stavo quasi dimenticando di dire: abbiamo dato un Libro di Mormon ad una signora che viene al corso di inglese!!!! Si chiama Marilena. Ha cominciato a venire di recente. Durante il pensiero spirituale nel giorno in cui le abbiamo dato il libro abbiamo mostrato il video in cui il Presidente Uchtdorf portava testimonianza di Gesu' Cristo. Nel video ha citato il libro di Mormon, che Marilena ha notato e di cui ci ha chiesto spiegazioni quando in seguito e' venuta a parlare con noi. Ci ha chiesto se poteva averne uno e quando le abbiamo detto che li davamo gratis e che poteva tenerne una copia e' rimasta molto sorpresa! C'e' un'altra donna, Cristina, che vuole anche lei un Libro di Mormon, cosi' gliene daremo uno questo martedi'. Un'altra donna, Antonella, e' venuta a vedere la Conferenza per un po' ed e' sembrata super interessata al vangelo cosi' al momento abbiamo tre grandi potenziali simpatizzanti solo dal corso di inglese!!! Siamo cosi' emozionate! Spero di poter avere aggiornamenti su loro la prossima settimana. Per favore pregate per loro!

Domenica abbiamo pranzato con Sorella Campo e Iolanda. Ci hanno riempito di vari assortimenti di cioccolatini.. era tutto buono. Inoltre sorella Campo e' una brava cuoca. Gli italiani lo sono e basta. :D   Le abbiamo riviste quella sera perche' ci hanno dato un passaggio all'ospedale per visitare il figlioletto del nostro vescovo. Non riescono a capire cosa abbia quindi sono tutti preoccupati ma durante la nostra visita il figlio del Vescovo si e' messo a correre e sembrava molto contento. E' stato bello vederlo. :) Il Vescovo e sua moglie erano li' anche loro cosi' e' stato bello parlare con loro.

Sabato sorella Cascone, uno dei nostri membri, ha presentato un libro di poesie che ha appena pubblicato. Sono venuti sei o sette dei suoi amici/collaboratori e abbiamo potuto parlare con loro della nostra missione e li abbiamo invitati alla nostra festa di rione di Halloween di questo fine settimana! Sorella Cascone e suo marito hanno fatto fare a loro un piccolo tour della chiesa e queste donne erano proprio attonite. E' piaciuta tanto! Piu' tardi in serata ho sentito uno di loro dire, "Questo posto fa davvero ringiovanire la mia anima!" Beh, c'e' qualcosa di piu' sotto... :) E' stata una grande opportunita' missionaria per noi e per i membri presenti alla presentazione del libro. Amo questo lavoro!!!

Il nostro rione e' davvero fantastico. Abbiamo avuto tanto sostegno dai membri e sono sempre desiderosi di aiutare. Siamo cosi' benedette!!!
Questa settimana non e' stata decisamente facile, ma abbiamo grandi progetti per la settimana prossima. Davvero non vedo l'ora! Cosi' alla prossima :)

Transfer 8, Week 2

New week, new updates! So,we are having fewer opportunities to share the Gospel in Ragusa... We've been trying various methods of finding new people to teach and a lot of them haven't been working but... we feel that several English course students right now have potential! We had a great experience last Thursday teaching our advanced class! They wanted to know about the Book of Mormon and we explained it to them. The Spirit was rampant! It was interesting to see how people feel the Spirit for the first time. Some were fidgety and looked uncomfortable, others were totally absorbed. We have a couple people in mind that we'd like to work with, so I hope to be able to report some progress with them soon!

We've been teaching the Restoration to the members and they've been enjoying it. It's really hard to get referrals here but we have a couple potential ones...

So we had an awesome lesson with some members at Giulia's! We had a really awesome discussion about the Book of Mormon and its origins. Giulia has finally started reading it! She found some scriptures that she really liked and she seemed deep in thought as we taught. She has SO much potential, we can hardly believe she's real. :) Now we just gotta invite her to church!

Sorella Holiday and I have been on top of our game. :) She is learning so so fast and is really getting the hang of missionary life! I'm learning lots as a trainer and zone conference was FANTASTIC, so it's really been helping us fine-tune a lot of things. The training at zone conference was exactly what we needed. I don't think I've felt the Spirit so strong at any of my other conferences!! We also had loads of fun with the other missionaries (the pictures tell it better!) so it was just a really memorable experience all-around. :)

The other day we were doing some finding and we stopped an old man who turned out to be an erborista, which is a guy who makes medicines and stuff out of herbs. He picked some plants off the side of the road and explained their medicinal uses to us for literally twenty minutes and he sounded completely crazy. He also said he asks Jesus Christ for permission to take the plants he uses and he apologizes to the plants when he rips them out of the ground! Quirky man but fun to talk to for sure.

I tried this fruit called kaki the other day and I'm in love. I bought a bagful today at the grocery store! It's got the skin of a pepper but thicker and it's a bit mushy but really sweet! Kind of like the texture of a mango and a pear put together. I really can't describe this fruit. You just have to try it. :)

Settimana nuova, nuovi aggiornamenti! Allora, abbiamo avuto meno opportunita' di condividere il Vangelo a Ragusa... abbiamo provato vari metodi per trovare nuova gente a cui insegnare e diversi non hanno funzionato ma.. sentiamo che diversi studenti del corso di inglese di questo periodo hanno del potenziale! Abbiamo avuto una grande esperienza lo scorso giovedi' insegnando la nostra classe avanzata! Volevano sapere del Libro di Mormon e lo abbiamo spiegato. Lo Spirito era divampante! E' interessante vedere come la gente sente lo Spirito per  la prima volta. Alcuni erano nervosi e sembravano a disagio, altri erano completamente rapiti. Abbiamo un paio di persone in mente con cui vorremmo lavorare cosi' spero di poter riportare un po' di progresso con loro subito!

Abbiamo insegnato la Restaurazione ai membri e sono stati contenti. E' molto difficile avere dei riferimenti qui ma ne abbiamo un paio di potenziali...

Allora abbiamo fatto una lezione splendida con alcuni membri a Giulia! Abbiamo avuto davvero una magnifica discussione sul Libro di Mormon e le sue origini. Giulia ha finalmente cominciato a leggerlo! Ha trovato delle scritture che le piacevano veramente e sembrava molto meditabonda mentre insegnavamo. Ha TANTO potenziale, crediamo a stento che sia vera. :) Ora dobbiamo solo invitarla a venire in chiesa!

Io e Sorella Holiday siamo state sempre in controllo della situazione.:) Sta imparando cosi' velocemente e sta imparando presto a gestire la vita missionaria! Sto imparando molto come addestratrice e la conferenza di zona e' stata FANTASTICA, cosi' ci ha davvero aiutato ad afferrare meglio molte cose. L'addestramento alla conferenza di zona e' stato esattamente cio' di cui avevamo bisogno. Non penso di aver sentito lo Spirito cosi' forte in nessun'altra delle  conferenze a cui ho partecipato!! Ci siamo anche molto divertiti con gli altri missionari (le foto potranno mostrarvelo meglio!) cosi' e' stata davvero un'esperienza memorabile sotto tutti i punti di vista. :)

L'altro giorno stavamo facendo ricerca e abbiamo fermato un uomo anziano che ha detto di essere un erborista, cioe' una persona che fa medicine e altre cose dalle erbe. Ha preso  delle piante dal ciglio della strada e ci ha spiegato il loro uso medico per letteralmente venti minuti e sembrava completamente pazzo. Ci ha anche detto che aveva chiesto a Gesu' Cristo il permesso di prendere le piante che usa e si scusa con le piante quando le strappa dalla terra! Un tipo bizzarro ma era decisamente divertente parlare con lui.

Ho provato questo tipo di frutto che si chiama kaki l'altro giorno e lo adoro. Ne ho comprato una busta piena oggi al negozio! Ha la pelle di un peperone ma piu' spessa ed e' un po' mollo ma molto dolce! Ha il sapore di un mango e di una pera messi insieme. Davvero non riesco a descrivere questo frutto. Bisogna provarlo. :)
