Transfer 5, Week 5

Results are in! I am going to RAGUSA!!!!!!! (That's in Sicily hahaha). Sorella Reber is going to be my new companion! We got to Italy at the same time so I met her at the villa and saw her around Rome a few times before she got transferred down south! Exciting!!!

Sorella McPheters is getting transferred too though!! Gah! That's called a blowout here. It's when both missionaries in a companionship get sent away and two new ones come in together, and that means we have a LOT of stuff to prepare before we leave Rome 5! Gotta clean the apartment from top to bottom, buy stuff that's missing, leave them directions on how to manage the area... it's crazy. I accept the challenge. :D Anyway, Sorella McPheters is going to Rome 2 so she won't be too far. And then there's me, just casually going to Africa.

Hahaha I'm actually super excited! I miss Sicily and I'm already dreaming about the cannoli and granite and arancini... :D :D Also a couple families in Rome 5 have friends and relatives in Ragusa! They've already been telling me who to go visit, where to go, etc. etc. It's pretty fun. :)

I'm going to miss Rome 5 a lot though. The members have become my family away from home and I've seen our investigators change and progress and I've seen new ones come in and old ones drop us and it's just like WOW I'm actually not spending the rest of my mission here?! Haha but really though, it's been a long time and I am so ready to go. Opportunity awaits. :)

This week was pretty hectic! We had a lot of stuff going on and didn't get to teach as many lessons as we would have liked BUT. We got to teach Diana with Sorella Marataro for the first time! We talked to her about her baptismal invite and she said that if God wants this baptism for her then she will accept it without question. Her main obstacle is getting and recognizing her answer so we talked about the Spirit and the ways that we feel it. It's nothing fancy. We just bore testimony and did our best to help her out. :) We found out that she's going on vacation for all of August so the next sisters might only see her a couple times... Boo. But we're so proud of all the progress she's made! She's even started studying Jesus the Christ and she LOVES IT!!!!! We'll meet with her this week and talk about that. :)

We had a scambio with our STLs this week! It was awesome because we had NO idea what to do until the morning they were supposed to come and we were praying SO hard for the Lord to help us get appointments... Nobody was answering the phone, the people who answered weren't available... And then on the way home from our district meeting we tried again and people answered and they made appointments with us!!! It was literally a miracle. During the scambio I taught Diana with Sorella Marataro and Sorella Cano and Sorella McPheters and Sorella Nagliati taught Sam (a new investigator) and Silvia! Sorella Cano and I also saw Marco. He's a new investigator from Albania who is really interested in the church. At first we thought he was joking but then we realized he actually wanted to know

more. He wants to come to church and he would have this past Sunday but he got called into work. :( Nevertheless he's curious and open! Sam is African and speaks French and a little bit of Italian so teaching him is hard but he's very sweet and wants to know more as well. We're hoping they'll continue to learn and grow in the gospel even though we won't be there to see it.

We had a Fourth of July party at our house on Saturday and made burgers, fries, and piggies in a blanket and ate ice cream with peaches for dessert. So yummy. We also celebrated by speaking in British accents all day long. It has actually carried over a few days and we still find ourselves doing it... Hahaha it's addicting. :)

The pictures I sent home will make up for all the things I don't have time to write about. I hope all of you back home are doing well! Imiss you all but I know I'm in the right place! Buona settimana a tutti. :) (Have a great week!)

I risultati sono arrivati! Vado a RAGUSA!!!!!!!! (E' in Sicilia, ahahah). Sorella Ruber sara' la mia nuova collega! Siamo arrivate in Italia con lo stesso trasferimento cosi' l'ho incontrata alla villa e l'ho vista a Roma alcune volte prima che venisse trasferita al sud! Emozionante!!!

Anche Sorella McPheters verra' trasferita' pero'!!! Questo si chiama "blow-out" da queste parti. Si riferisce a quando entrambi i missionari della stessa coppia vengono trasferiti e due nuovi arrivano insieme, il che significa che abbiamo un MUCCHIO di cose  da preparare prima di lasciare Roma 5! Dobbiamo pulire l'appartamento da cima a fondo, comprare la roba che manca, lasciare a loro istruzioni su come gestire la zona... e' pazzesco. Accetto la sfida. :D. Comunque, Sorella McPheters andra' a Roma 2 cosi' non sara' molto lontana. E poi ci sono io, che sto andando casualmente in Africa. Ahahahah! In realta' sono molto emozionata! Mi manca la Sicilia e gia' sogno i cannoli, le granite e gli arancini... :D :D Inoltre un paio di famiglie di Roma 5 hanno amici e parenti a Ragusa! Mi hanno gia' detto chi andare a visitare, dove andare ecc. ecc.. E' divertente. :)

Mi manchera' Roma 5 MOLTISSIMO. I membri sono diventati la mia famiglia lontano da casa e ho i visto i nostri simpatizzanti cambiare e progredire e ho visto aggiungersi quelli nuovi e quelli vecchi che ci hanno lasciato e mi sembra  pazzesco di non dover finire il resto della mia missione qui! Ahah! Ma davvero, ho trascorso tanto tempo qui e sono pronta ad andare. Le opportunita' mi attendono. :)

La settimana scorsa e' stata parecchio caotica! Abbiamo avuto molto da fare e non abbiamo potuto insegnare tutte le lezioni che volevamo MA abbiamo insegnato a Diana con Sorella Marataro per la prima volta! Le abbiamo parlato dell'invito battesimale e lei ha detto che se Dio vuole questo battesimo per lei allora lei accettera' senza esitazioni. Il suo ostacolo principale e' ricevere e riconoscere la risposta cosi' le abbiamo parlato dello Spirito e di come lo sentiamo. Non e' nulla di elaborato. Le abbiamo semplicemente portato la nostra testimonianza e abbiamo fatto del nostro meglio per aiutarla. :) Abbiamo scoperto che andra' in vacanza tutto il mese di agosto cosi' le prossime sorelle potranno vederla solo un paio di volte.... Boo. Ma siamo molto fiere di tutto il progresso che ha fatto! Ha persino cominciato a studiare Gesu' il Cristo e le PIACE!!!! La incontreremo questa settimana e ne parleremo. :)

Abbiamo fatto uno scambio con le nostre Sister Training Leaders questa settimana! E' stato grandioso perche' non avevamo idea di cosa fare fino al mattino in cui dovevano venire e abbiamo pregato COSI' tanto che il Signore ci aiutasse ad avere degli appuntamenti... Nessuno rispondeva al telefono, le persone che rispondevano non erano disponibili... e poi di ritorno dalla nostra riunione di distretto abbiamo provato di nuovo, ci hanno risposto e abbiamo potuto fare degli appuntamenti!!! E' stato letteralmente un miracolo. Durante lo scambio ho insegnato a Diana con Sorella Marataro e Sorella Cano e Sorella McPheters e Sorella Nagliati hanno insegnato a Sam (un nuovo simpatizzante) e Silvia! Io e Sorella Cano abbiamo anche visto Marco. E' un nuovo simpatizzante dall'Albania che e' molto intereressato alla chiesa. Dapprima pensavamo che stesse scherzando ma poi ci siamo rese conto che davvero ne voleva sapere di piu'. Vuole venire in chiesa e lo avrebbe fatto domenica scorsa ma e' stato chiamato al lavoro. :( Cio' nonostante e' curioso e aperto! Sam e' africano e parla francese e un po' di italiano cosi' insegnare era un po' difficile ma e' molto dolce e vuole comunque saperne di piu'. Speriamo che continueranno a imparare a crescere nel vangelo anche se non saremo li' a vederlo.

Abbiamo fatto una festa per il Quattro di Luglio a casa nostra sabato e abbiamo fatto i burgers, le patate fritte, gli hot dogs avvolti nella pasta sfoglia e abbiamo mangiato il gelato con le pesche come dolce. Cosi' buono! Abbiamo anche celebrato parlando con i vari accenti britannici tutto il giorno. Lo abbiamo fatto anche nei giorni seguenti e ci ritroviamo ancora a farlo ...aahahah e' qualcosa che genera assuefazione. :)

Le foto che ho mandato a casa compenseranno tutte le cose che non ho il tempo di scrivere. Spero che tutti voi a casa stiate bene!!! Mi mancate tutti ma so di essere nel posto giusto! Buona settimana a tutti. :)

Transfer 5, Week 4

This week was interesting. We are now teaching Marilena, the mother in that new family we found. She gladly accepted to read the Book of Mormon and she already has a good handle on reading the Bible regularly. She can tell that there's a difference in her life when she doesn't read it, so it's great to see that she already has a testimony of regular scripture study. We did invite her to be baptized after teaching her the Restoration but instead of saying yes or no she completely changed the subject and asked us how long we'll be here on our missions. It was weird... Maybe she didn't understand what we were asking? So we're going to take small steps with her. Her family hasn't been around but we're starting with her and hoping to teach everyone else as well. She's really great!! This woman is the key to helping her family get baptized. If she'll be willing to accept the Lord and His will for her she'll make the changes necessary to be baptized.

Diana continues to grow and learn but something came up again and she couldn't come to church... Satan is fighting us really hard. We have GOT to get her there for this week. Also we found out that she has a brother so we will try to have him become a referral!

Speaking of referrals, Marta is still a referral factory. She keeps finding friends and relatives to share the gospel with and she mentioned wanting to serve a mission!! She is golden as ever!! Unfortunately her daughter Laura doesn't want to meet with us so that's a huge bummer... But maybe someday another set of missionaries will be able to teach her.

Mary ACTUALLY has been reading the Book of Mormon!!! Marta made miracles on her!! She also agreed to pray about it to know if it's true! She is still super skeptical but we're seeing small miracles with her suddenly. She's going to be on vacation for the next three weeks so I may or may not see her again depending on transfers but if I do leave I'll leave knowing that we never gave up on her and that the Lord has the power to change people's hearts by degrees, no matter what their religion and point of view. I can absolutely see her joining the church someday. :)

Bertina is basically on the edge of a precipice. We're not sure how much she wants to commit and we weren't able to see her this week.

Our list of investigators is pretty stagnant and is shrinking fast so we've been praying hard for miracles and doing everything possible to avoid ricerca and going to members for referrals instead. Progress is slow and difficult but we're trying and that's all that matters to me. Gotta keep pushing!

Transfer calls are this Saturday so we will see what happens. My guess is I'm training. Stay tuned :)

 NOTA: Il nome dei simpatizzanti e' stato cambiato.

Questa settimana e' stata interessante. Stiamo ora insegnando a Marilena, la madre in quella nuova famiglia che abbiamo trovato. Ha accettato volentieri di leggere il Libro di Mormon e ha preso anche la mano a leggere la Bibbia regolarmente. Puo' dire che vede una differenza nella sua vita quando non lo legge cosi' e' bello vedere che ha gia' una testimonianza dello studio regolare delle scritture. L'abbiamo invitata ad essere battezzata dopo averle insegnato la Restaurazione ma invece di dire si' o no ha cambiato completamente argomento e ci ha chiesto per quanto tempo staremo qui in missione. E' stato strano...Forse non aveva capito quello che le stavamo chiedendo? Cosi' faremo piccoli passi con lei. La sua famiglia non era li' ma stiamo cominciando con lei e speriamo di poter insegnare a tutti gli altri. E' davvero in gamba!!! Questa donna e' la chiave per aiutare la sua famiglia a farsi battezzare. Se vorra' accettare il Signore e la Sua volonta' per lei, fara' i cambiamenti necessari per essere battezzata.

Diana continua a crescere e ad imparare ma qualcosa e' successo di nuovo e non e' potuta venire in chiesa... Satana ci sta combattendo alla grande, DOBBIAMO farla venire questa settimana. Abbiamo anche scoperto che ha un fratello cosi' proveremo a farlo diventare un riferimento.

Parlando di riferimenti, Marta e' ancora una fabbrica di riferimenti. Continua a trovare amici e parenti con cui condividere il vangelo e ha anche  detto di voler servire una missione!! E' d'oro come sempre!!! Sfortunatamente sua figlia Laura non ci vuole incontrare cosi' quello e' un brutto colpo... ma forse un giorno altri missionari potranno insegnare a lei.

Mary sta DAVVERO leggendo il Libro di Mormon!!! Marta ha fatto miracoli con lei!!! Ha anche acconsentito a pregare per sapere se e' vero! E' ancora super scettica ma improvvisamente stiamo vedendo piccoli miracoli. Stara' in vacanza per le prossime tre settimane cosi' potrei vederla o non vederla a seconda dei trasferimenti ma se andro' via lo faro' sapendo che non abbiamo mai desistito con lei e che il Signore ha il potere di cambiare i cuori gradatamente, indipendentemente dalla loro religione e punto di vista. Posso assolutamente vederla unirsi alla chiesa un giorno. :) 

Bertina e' praticamente sull'orlo del precipizio. Non siamo sicuri di quanto si voglia impegnare e non abbiamo potuto incontrarla questa settimana.

La nostra lista di investigatori e' abbastanza stagnante e si sta assottigliando velocemente cosi' stiamo pregando tanto di avere dei miracoli e stiamo facendo di tutto per evitare la ricerca e cerchiamo invece di avere riferimenti dai membri. Il progresso e' lento e difficile ma ci stiamo provando e questo e' quello che conta per me. Dobbiamo continuare a provare!

Le chiamate dei trasferimenti sono questo sabato cosi' vedremo cosa succede. Mi sa che divento un' addestratrice. Vedremo.

Transfer 5, Week 3

I cannot BELIEVE I'm already halfway through this transfer. The beginning of each one always feels kinda slow and then all of a sudden you're super caught up in the work and time is flying and the transfer is over. Means we're working hard I guess!

WE HAVE THE CAR AGAIN, first off. It is SO NICE. I missed it. And driving in Italy is fun. Crazy sometimes depending on where you are but fun.

This week will be wicked fun because we're having a scambio with the STLs ( Sister Training Leaders) and we're starting up a new English course! It's at a place you can actually get to by bus with regular hours and a lot of people were interested, including the guy who's letting us use his locale (place) to do it. His name is Walter. I met him tracting with Sorella Margheriti in my first transfer and we had his number and had talked about starting an English course but for some reason it never happened. Well, Walter was more than happy to help us out and he's not even asking us to pay anything for borrowing this place he owns. What a boss. He's also super cool and knows like half the paese (town) so we're hoping his friends come!

Our tracting this week was hard at the beginning but by the end of it we were having conversations with people ALL OVER THE PLACE. We didn't even do much. The Lord simply put friendly, open people in our path and gave us a little push to start talking to them and it all went from there. We got a bunch of phone numbers so those people could

become investigators!!!

Just yesterday we talked to three Romanian men and an Italian woman who were all sitting on a couple benches. We gave them some opuscoli (brochures) and they opened them up and started reading them right away!!! That was awesome. It doesn't happen often. One of the guys, Emilio, pulled out peach juice boxes and gave them to us, which was perfect because it was hot and I had been wishing for some fruit. :)

Shoutout to my cousin Gabriele for his mission call to Lyon, France and to my high school bro Rob for his upcoming baptism! It's so good to hear news like that when you're far from home.

We were able to visit Bertina and Diana this week. Bertina had read FIVE CHAPTERS of the Book of Mormon since we had last seen her! As for Diana, we left her the newest General Conference magazine and she did some exploring and read a talk! She really liked it. We're trying to expose Diana and Bertina to the church by degrees and it's really helping them progress. :) The hard part is just getting them to church, which seems to be the struggle with most people here.

We are meeting a family that is SUPER curious. They asked half a billion questions so we ended up telling them that there was no way we could answer all of them at once but we could start with the Restoration. So that's what we did. We told them we would bring them some Books of Mormon next time and Vanni (the dad) said he doesn't have time to read. But we wouldn't have any of that. We told him even five minutes while he's eating breakfast would make a difference in his day and we promised him the blessings of regular scripture study, even when making time for it is hard. He seemed fine with that. At the end of the lesson we invited them to go in the other room and kneel in prayer with us and Vanni said, "Oh I'll just watch you guys from the kitchen." On top of that little Michele was screaming his head off. But we wouldn't have any of that either. We told him that prayers actually seem to calm little kids down and that we couldn't pray without him. He seemed fine with that too. And then we invited him to pray and he was like, No you say it! We asked him again and HE DID IT. He didn't even protest. And as soon as he started praying Michele stopped crying.

When we finished praying he was staring at us with his big blue eyes and he didn't scream even when we got up. I don't know what it is about being a missionary and making promises but when you make one, it's true.

The rest of the week was full of meetings and more tracting and visiting members and getting rained on hardcore during gesso and pizza and today I bought a couple things for my wardrobe and it made me feel slightly normal. :o) Also a couple boys said hi to us just now and said ciao mamma to Sorella McPheters... Weird? Hahahaha Italians are crazy, I love them.

I finally have pictures this week! This country is so beautiful. I'm in love. Enjoy it from your computer screens, I'll try to enjoy it up close for y'all. ;)

Non  ci posso credere che sono gia' a meta' di questo trasferimento. L'inizio di ogni trasferimento sembra sempre un po' lento e poi improvvisamente si  e' presi dal lavoro e il tempo vola e il trasferimento e' finito. Significa che stiamo lavorando duro, credo!

ABBIAMO DI NUOVO LA MACCHINA, prima di tutto. E' COSI' BELLO. Mi e' mancata. Guidare in Italia e' divertente. Pazzesco a volte a seconda di dove ci si trovi ma divertente.

Questa settimana sara' molto divertente perche' faremo uno scambio con le Sister Training Leaders e stiamo per iniziare un nuovo corso di inglese! E' in un posto raggiungibile con l'autobus ad orari regolari e molte persone erano interessate, inclusa la persona che ci sta facendo usare il suo locale per farlo. Si chiama Walter. L'ho incontrato andando di casa in casa con sorella Margheriti durante il mio primo trasferimento, avevo il suo numero e avevamo parlato di iniziare un corso di inglese ma per qualche ragione non e' mai successo. Bene, Walter e' stato piu' che contento di aiutarci e non ci ha neanche chiesto di pagare nulla per aver preso in prestito questo suo locale. Che boss. E' anche molto in gamba e conosce mezzo paese cosi' speriamo che i suoi amici vengano!

La nostra ricerca questa settimana e' stata difficile all'inizio ma verso la fine abbiamo fatto conversazione con persone DAPPERTUTTO. Non abbiamo neanche dovuto lavorare troppo. Il Signore ha messo semplicemente sul nostro cammino persone amichevoli e aperte e ci ha dato una piccola spinta iniziale per incominciare a parlare e tutto e' proceduto da li'. Abbiamo alcuni numeri telefonici cosi' queste persone potrebbero diventare simpatizzanti!!!!

Solo ieri abbiamo parlato con tre uomini rumeni e una donna italiana che stavano tutti seduti su un paio di panchine. Abbiamo dato loro degli opuscoli e li hanno aperti e hanno cominciato a leggerli sul momento!!! Che cosa straordinaria. Non succede spesso. Uno di loro, Emilio, ha tirato fuori dei succhi di frutta alla pesca e ce li ha dati, il che era perfetto perche' faceva caldo e desideravo tanto un po' di frutta. :)

Urra' a mio cugino Gabriele per la sua chiamata in missione a Lione in Francia e al mio compagno di scuola Rob per il suo imminente battesimo! E' cosi' bello sentire queste notizie quando si e' lontani da casa!

Abbiamo potuto andare a trovare Bertina e Diana questa settimana. Bertina ha letto CINQUE CAPITOLI del libro di Mormon da quando l'abbiamo vista l'ultima volta! A Diana abbiamo invece lasciato la rivista della piu' recente Conferenza Generale e l'ha sfogliata un po' e letto un discorso! Le e' piaciuta davvero. Stiamo cercando di esporre Diana a Bertina alla Chiesa per gradi e cio' le aiuta a progredire. :) La parte difficile e' farle venire in chiesa, il che sembra la sfida maggiore per le persone qui.

Stiamo vedendo una famiglia che e' MOLTO interessata. Hanno fatto mezzo bilione di domande cosi' abbiamo dovuto dire che non c'era verso di poter rispondere a tutte contemporanemente ma che potevamo incominciare con la Restaurazione. E questo e' quello che abbiamo fatto. Abbiamo detto loro che avremmo portato alcuni libri di Mormon la volta seguente e Vanni ( il padre) disse che non aveva tempo di leggere. Ma non ci siamo date per vinte. Gli abbiamo detto che anche cinque minuti mentre faceva colazione avrebbero fatto la differenza nella sua giornata e gli abbiamo fatto la promessa delle benedizioni  dello studio regolare delle Scritture, anche quando trovare il tempo e' difficile. Sembrava essere d'accordo con questo. Alla fine della lezione lo abbiamo invitato ad andare nella stanza accanto e a inginocchiarsi con noi e Vanni ha detto " Oh, vi guardo dalla cucina". Oltre a questo il piccolo Michele stava strillando a piu' non posso. Ma non ci ha fermate neppure quello. Gli abbiamo detto che le preghiere sembrano calmare i bambini piccoli e che non potevamo pregare senza di lui. Sembrava non avere problemi neppure con quello. Poi lo abbiamo invitato a pregare e lui ha fatto "No, la dite voi!" Glielo abbiamo chiesto di nuovo e LO HA FATTO. Non ha neanche protestato. Come ha cominciato a pregare Michele ha smesso di piangere. Quando abbiamo finito di pregare ci stava fissando con i suoi grandi occhi blu e non ha strillato neanche quando ci siamo alzate. Non lo so che cosa succede quando si e' missionari e si fanno promesse ma quando se ne fa una, si avvera.

Il resto della settimana e' stato pieno di riunioni, ricerca, visite ai membri o essere inzuppati sotto la pioggia a dirotto durante la mostra con il gesso, pizza e oggi ho comprato un paio di cose per il mio guardaroba il che mi ha fatto sentire un po' normale. :o) Inoltre un paio di ragazzi ci hanno salutato proprio ora e hanno detto " Ciao, mamma" a Sorella McPheters... Strano? Ahahah, gli italiani sono pazzi, mi fanno morire.

Finalmente ho delle foto questa settimana! Questo paese e' bello. Ne sono innamorata. Godetevelo dai vostri computer mentre io provo a godermelo da vicino per tutti voi . ;)
