Transfer 7, Week 4

Soooo muuuuch stuuuuuff happened this week!!!!! I'm going to try really hard to remember it... I didn't get much in the way of sleep these last few days, probably because of all the work we've been doing (it does keep you up at night sometimes and maybe you'll even dream about it hahaha) but I'd rather be sleep-deprived and working than well-rested and empty-handed!

We met with Mario and Tina's family again and taught them the Restoration! Sorella Reber and I wrote out a little kid-friendly script and used some object lessons and pictures and questions that got the kids engaged in our teaching. They all sat quietly and paid attention and said some really sweet things! Fratello Magrograssi, one of our members, came to the lesson and bore a hardcore testimony of the Book of Mormon at the end of the lesson. He said that any man who has this book is the richest man in the world and started to cry. It was so touching. Probably one of the best lessons I've taught on my whole mission. Afterwards we all ate pizza and brownies together so the night ended on a good note. :) But get this: we invited them to church the next day and... THEY CAME. ALL OF THEM. IN THEIR SUNDAY BEST. It was worth getting a picture of us missionaries with our faces pressed against the glass of the front doors and Mario in a white shirt and tie (he has NEVER worn that to church!!!) and Tina in a skirt and all their kids trailing behind them!!!! They had a great time and after the meetings the members came up to them to say hi and talk. It was so so so special. Something miraculous is going to happen because of this family. We feel it so strong.

Lorenzo had had a really difficult weekend so we weren't able to do much for him earlier in the week. But then we saw him a couple days ago and he had FINISHED the Book of Mormon!!!! He told us some bad news though: he's decided to close down his shop. He hasn't been making enough money and he decided it wasn't worth staying open. He looked sad but we can tell he's had some time to accept it. He was doing better than he had been the last time we saw him. We had the impression to talk to him about fasting after that. He's fasted for holidays but never for anything else. When we told him you can fast in times of trial he was really surprised! He'd never thought about that going hand-in-hand with earnest prayer. And so we agreed to all fast that Monday (so today) for him. He also said he would kneel and pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true, even if he had to close his shop for a few minutes to do it. And so we added that to the fast too. We'll be fasting for him until tonight and once we finish we'll visit him and talk. We're so excited... This man has so much faith.

Simone, one of our English Course students, is back! We hadn't seen him since the very end of July, I think. We teach him English during the week because he can't make the times for English Course. We always finish with a spiritual thought and he responds really well to those. Well, we finally saw him again and had a great lesson!! We gave him Moroni 7 to read and told him to find 10 principles that stand out to him to discuss next time. He said he would definitely do that. :)

These are our main lessons from this week. We actually didn't even have time to see any less-actives, which is crazy because we've been visiting them so often since I got here! We've been visiting members and teaching them about missionary work so the focus was shifted but we visited a lot of them and the results have been spectacular. We're doubling our efforts to unify this ward in bringing their friends and family unto Christ and it is working! Slowly but surely.

Transfer calls are this Saturday. I feel like they always sneak up on us really fast... I hope Anziano Puff gets to call us because he's leaving in a week (ahhh what??? THAT WENT SO FAST.) and I didn't get to say goodbye. Hahaha as for guesses... I think there's a little chance that Sorella Reber COULD stay. Our work is finally picking up but it's not so much that we feel like it's her time to go. But that's not for us to decide. So if Sorella Reber does go I think I'll probably follow-up train or be with someone older than me in the mission. I don't think I'm training just yet. I think it's much more likely that I'll train an Italian and there are no Italians coming in this transfer (the Madrid MTC has them every other transfer) so I would have to wait one more, at least. We'll see! We'll see. I think a lot of people are going to leave the Catania zone this transfer because they've been here for a long time! It's not just Sorella Reber. It'll be sad if that happens but hey, when the mission throws you curveballs you gotta catch them. Or risk getting socked in the face. :D

I'm learning a lot here, and it's been really, really hard. But the good things that happen make the uphill battle worthwhile. The Lord's hand is in Ragusa, of that I'm sure. I love the mission! Like always. :)

Cosi' tante cose sono successe questa settimana!!!!! Faro' del mio meglio a ricordare tutto... non ho dormito poi cosi' tanto in questi ultimi giorni, probabilmente per tutto il lavoro che abbiamo fatto (ti tiene sveglia la notte e forse te lo sogni pure, ahahah) ma preferisco essere a corto di sonno ed impegnata a lavorare che ben riposata e a mani vuote!

Abbiamo incontrato di nuovo la famiglia di Mario e Tina e abbiamo insegnato la Restaurazione! Io e Sorella Reber abbiamo creato un piccolo elaborato scritto per bambini e abbiamo usato oggetti dimostrativi, disegni e domande per coinvolgere i bambini mentre insegnavamo. Tutti sono rimasti seduti  in silenzio, hanno prestato attenzione e hanno detto cose molto dolci! Fratello Magrograssi, uno dei nostri membri, e' venuto alla lezione e ha portato un'accorata testimonianza sul Libro di Mormon alla fine della lezione. Ha detto che ogni uomo che ha questo libro e' il piu' ricco del mondo e ha cominciato a piangere. E' stato cosi' toccante. Probabilmente una delle migliori lezioni che abbia insegnato in tutta la mia missione. Dopo tutti abbiamo mangiato pizza e brownies e la serata si e' conclusa allegramente. :) Ma fate attenzione a cio' che sto per dirvi: li abbiamo invitati a venire in chiesa il giorno dopo e... SONO VENUTI. TUTTI. CON I VESTITI MIGLIORI DELLA DOMENICA.  Era proprio il caso di fare una foto, noi missionari con la faccia spiaccicata contro i vetri della porta d'ingresso, Mario con la camicia bianca e la cravatta (non l'ha MAI messa in chiesa!!!), Tina con la gonna e tutti i loro bambini che li seguivano!!!! Si sono trovati molto bene e dopo le riunioni i membri sono venuti a salutarli e a parlare con loro. E' stato cosi' speciale. Qualcosa di miracoloso sta per accadere a causa di questa famiglia. Lo sentiamo fortemente.

Lorenzo ha avuto un fine settimana molto difficile cosi' non abbiamo potuto fare molto per lui. Ma poi lo abbiamo visto un paio di giorni fa e aveva FINITO il Libro di Mormon!!!! Pero' ci ha dato una brutta notizia: ha deciso di chiudere il negozio. Non stava guadagnando abbastanza e aveva deciso che non valeva la pena tenerlo aperto. Sembrava triste ma si vedeva che aveva avuto un po' di tempo per accettarlo. Stava meglio dell'ultima volta che lo abbiamo visto. Abbiamo pero' avuto l'impressione di dover parlare con lui del digiuno. Aveva digiunato per le feste ma mai per qualche altro motivo. Quando gli abbiamo detto che si puo' digiunare nei momenti difficili e' stato molto sorpreso! Non ci aveva mai pensato e che cio' potesse essere accompagnato da ferventi preghiere. E cosi' ci siamo messi d'accordo di digiunare tutti insieme lunedi' (cioe' oggi) per lui. Ha anche detto che si sarebbe inginocchiato e avrebbe pregato per sapere se il Libro di Mormon fosse vero, anche se avesse dovuto chiudere il negozio per alcuni minuti per poterlo fare. Cosi' abbiamo aggiunto anche quello al nostro digiuno. Digiuneremo oggi fino a stasera e poi lo andremo a trovare e parleremo. Siamo cosi' emozionate... Quest'uomo ha tanta fede.

Simone, uno degli studenti del nostro corso di inglese, e' tornato! Non lo vedevamo dalla fine di luglio, credo. Gli insegnamo inglese durante la settimana perche' non puo' venire quando facciamo il corso di inglese. Finiamo sempre con un pensiero spirituale e lui risponde molto bene a questi. Beh, lo abbiamo finalmente rivisto e abbiamo fatto una grande lezione!! Gli abbiamo dato Moroni 7 da leggere e gli abbiamo detto di trovare 10 principi che sono importanti per lui da discutere la prossima volta. Ha detto che lo avrebbe fatto senz'altro. :)

Queste sono le nostre lezioni principali di questa settimana. Non abbiamo avuto il tempo di vedere nessuno degli inattivi, il che e' pazzesco perche' li abbiamo visitati cosi' spesso da quando sono arrivata qui! Abbiamo visitato i membri e abbiamo insegnato loro a fare lavoro missionario cosi' il centro dell'attenzione e' stato spostato ma ne abbiamo visitati tanti e i risultati sono stati spettacolari. Stiamo raddoppiando i nostri sforzi per unire questo rione nel portare i loro amici e familiari a Cristo e sta funzionando! Lentamente ma certamente.

I trasferimenti saranno questo sabato. Mi sembra sempre come se arrivino troppo presto... spero che Anziano Puff ci chiamera' perche' parte tra una settimana (ahhh, cosa??? E' PASSATO COSI' VELOCEMENTE.) e non ho potuto salutarlo. Ahahah e per i pronostici... penso che ci sia una piccola possibilita' che Sorella Reber POSSA rimanere. Il nostro lavoro sta finalmente procedendo ma non e' cosi' tanto da poter pensare che sia tempo per lei di andare. Ma non sta a noi decidere. Cosi' se Sorella Reber se ne va penso che potrei continuare con una sorella appena addestrata o con qualcuno che sta da piu' tempo di me nella missione. Non credo che potro' addestrare gia' da ora. Penso che sia molto piu' probabile che addestri un'italiana e non ci sono italiani che arrivano con questo trasferimento ( il centro addestramento di Madrid li manda un trasferimento si' e uno no) cosi' dovro' aspettare almeno ancora un trasferimento. Vedremo! Vedremo. Penso che molte persone lasceranno la zona di Catania con questo trasferimento perche' sono stati qui per tanto tempo! Non e' solo sorella Reber. Sara' triste se succedera' ma, ehi, quando la missione ti lancia un tiro mancino e' meglio acchiapparlo. O si rischia di essere colpiti in faccia. :D

Sto imparando tanto qui ed e' stato molto, molto difficile. Ma le buone cose che succedono rendono la battaglia degna di essere combattuta. La mano del Signore e' su Ragusa, di questo ne sono sicura. Amo la missione! Come sempre. :)

There's a pizza they make here in Italy called 007. I ate it all in one sitting. I died!!!/C'e' una pizza che fanno qui in Italia che si chiama 007. L'ho mangiata tutta in una volta. Sono morta!!!!
