Sorella Battezzato's Missionary Blog: Time crunch!!!

Hey everyone, I have VERY little time to write so here's a little rundown of what happened last week!

First off, we taught a bunch of lessons during our finding! We didn't stop a lot of people but the few people we talked to were very open and we have a handful of potential investigators now. Wish us luck :) We talked to one guy named Jordan from Santo Domingo and he only spoke Spanish but we were able to communicate! (I am REALLY glad I felt inspired to study Spanish at BYU because that experience helped me understand Jordan a lot better. Always obey promptings!) Anyway, the work is progressing! Precious knows that the Church is true now, she just needs a little moral support because she's nervous about leaving her church. We have a lot of faith in her!! She's awesome.

We saw Alessandro again just before going to the internet point today. We taught him the Restoration again and we brought Alan Garcia with us. He came home from his mission three months ago (he served in Milan). He helped SO MUCH with the lesson because Alessandro talks a ton and often goes off-topic but Alan really helped us connect what Alessandro was saying to the parts of the lesson. I really have a strong testimony of member missionary work. Taking members to lessons is so important!! It's really frustrating when the person you're teaching talks a lot but the Spirit helped us have patience and we were able to give him a Book of Mormon and he said he'll read it. Woo! :)

Oh, so Rome last Monday was SWWEEEEET. We went to a bone church with all these decorations made with bones that belonged to monks. It was way gross and creepy in a really morbid, intriguing way. Haha. We were with Alessandra, Sorella Decker, and her comp, Sorella Barazoto. Sorella Barazoto kept pretending to touch the bone chandeliers hanging from the ceiling (yes... bone chandeliers) and Sorella Decker was like, "SORELLA, EW. You're gonna get some gross disease if you do that." Hahaha. Sorella Barazoto is the bomb. It's also really cool that our last names are totally similar! Sometimes I have trouble saying hers because I get it confused with mine. But yeah, other than that we saw the Colosseum and said goodbye to the missionaries that were going home. It's pretty crazy to think that they're home now and we're still here doing the same things as always! But I wouldn't trade places with them for the world. I absolutely love what I'm doing. :)

Anziano Gardenhire's new comp is Anziano Bellows. He's from Minnesota and he's pretty quiet but really chill! He went to BYU before the mission too. :)

This past weekend was awesome! We went to our branch president's house (Presidente Gessati) to help him paint some wood for a toolshed with this stuff called impregnante (water sealant). I can't think of the English translation right now buuut it seals the water out of the wood and stains it so it's more brown. It stains hands pretty well too... hahah we should have worn rubber gloves! But anyway, we worked with the Anziani and had competitions to see who could paint their piece of wood faster and of course us Sorelle won. ;) In the meantime Presidente Gessati was with three youth in our branch who were getting their mission papers ready!! That was so cool! Our branch will have three missionaries on the field around September! It feels weird because I'll have less than a year left in the mission by that point and that just makes me feel old... Hahaha. But yeah, that service project was the first "real" one we've done here!! I was really glad to have been able to serve by doing something messy. :)

After that we went to a baby shower for Sorella Simoncini! She's new in the branch and the party was a total surprise. She was sooo shocked to see us all standing in her basement but she was really happy and we played some games and had a lot of fun together. The food was fun too. :D Italians make theee best treats for parties. Hands. Down. I also got to play with baby Stefano and I could not get enough of his cheeks. He always smiles and his name is cool, obviously because it's like mine! Hahaha the humility right now... ;)

On Sunday we fasted for the temple in Rome. We're really hoping the construction will be done this year but we have no idea what's going on yet. All we know is that we were asked to fast for it and to focus our sacrament meeting on temples and genealogy work. (I really miss being able to go to the temple!) I know the Lord will hear our prayers for the one in Rome. The people of Italy need it so badly. But I'm always amazed by their faith and I know their sacrifices will bless this country.

TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

Salve a tutti, ho davvero poco tempo per scrivere cosi' ecco un piccolo riepilogo di quanto e' successo la settimana scorsa!

Per cominciare, abbiamo insegnato un po' di lezioni durante il tempo in cui cerchiamo di parlare con la gente! Non abbiamo fermato molta gente ma le poche persone con cui abbiamo parlato erano molto aperte ed ora abbiamo alcuni potenziali investigatori. Augurateci buona fortuna :) Abbiamo parlato a un ragazzo che si chiama Jordan di Santo Domingo e parlava solo spagnolo ma eravamo in grado di comunicare! ( Sono DAVVERO contenta di essermi sentita ispirata a BYU a studiare spagnolo perche' mi ha permesso di capire Jordan molto meglio. Bisogna sempre seguire le ispirazioni!) Comunque il lavoro va avanti! Precious sa ora che la chiesa e' vera, ha solo bisogno di un po' di supporto morale perche' e' un po' a disagio nel lasciare la sua chiesa. Abbiamo molta fede in lei!!! E' bravissima.

Abbiamo visto Alessandro di nuovo oggi proprio prima di andare all'Internet Point. Gli abbiamo parlato di nuovo della Restaurazione e abbiamo portato Alan Garcia con noi. E' tornato dalla missione tre mesi fa ( ha servito a Milano). Ha aiutato COSI' TANTO durante la lezione perche' Alessandro parla molto e spesso va fuori argomento ma Alan ci ha aiutato molto a collegare quello che diceva Alessandro con alcuni punti della lezione. Ho una testimonianza molto grande del lavoro missionario con i membri. Portare i membri alle lezioni e' cosi' importanate!! E' davvero frustrante quando le persone a cui si insegna parlano molto ma lo Spirito ci ha aiutato ad avere pazienza e gli abbiamo dato un Libro di Mormon e ci ha detto che l'avrebbe letto. Evviva! :)

Oh, lo scorso lunedi' Roma e' stata UNA BELLEZZA! Siamo andate ad una chiesa dove tutte le decorazioni erano fatte con le ossa di monaci. Faceva ribrezzo ed era spaventoso in un modo che mi incuriosiva. Ahah. Eravamo con Alessandra, Sorella Decker e la sua collega, Sorella Barazoto. Sorella Barazoto continuava a fingere di toccare i lampadari fatti di ossa che pendevano dal soffitto ( si', proprio lampadari fatti di ossa) e Sorella Decker diceva " SORELLA, CHE SCHIFO! Ti ammalerai alla grande se continui a fare quello!." Ahah. Sorella Barazoto e' il massimo! E' anche forte il fatto che i nostri cognomi sono simili! A volte mi viene difficile dire il suo nome perche' lo confondo con il mio. A parte quello abbiamo visitato il Colosseo e salutato i missionari che tornavano a casa. E' pazzesco pensare che siano a casa ora mentre noi continuamo a fare le cose di sempre! Ma non cambierei il mio posto con il loro per nulla al mondo. Amo assolutamente quello che faccio. :)

Il nuovo collega di Anziano Gardenhire e' Anziano Bellows. E' del Minnesota ed e' molto taciturno ma davvero simpatico! Anche lui e' andato a BYU prima della missione. :)

Questo scorso fine settimana e' stato fantastico! Siamo andati a casa del nostro presidente di ramo (Presidente Gessati) per aiutarlo a pittare del legno per una casetta degli attrezzi con questa roba che si chiama impregnante. Serve a proteggere il legno dall'acqua e lo colora cosi' e' piu' marrone. Macchia anche le mani molto bene... ahah avremmo dovuto indossare i guanti usa e getta! Comunque abbiamo lavorato con gli anziani e abbiamo fatto una competizione per vedere chi pittava il proprio pezzo di legno prima e ovviamente noi sorelle abbiamo vinto. :) Nel frattempo il presidente Gessati era con tre giovani del nostro ramo che stavano preparando le carte per andare in missione!! Era troppo bello! Il nostro ramo avra' tre missionari sul campo intorno a settembre! E' strano perche' a quel punto avro' meno di un anno di missione e cio' mi fa sentire vecchia...ahahah. Eh si', questo atto di servizio e' stato il primo " vero" servizio fatto finora!! Sono davvero contenta di aver potuto servire facendo qualcosa che ci ha fatto sporcare. :)

Dopo siamo andate al baby shower per Sorella Simoncini! E' nuova nel ramo e la festa e' stata una sorpresa. E' rimasta cosi' scioccata nel vedere tutte noi nel suo scantinato ma e' stata molto contenta, abbiamo fatto dei giochi e ci siamo molto divertite. Il cibo era anche parte del divertimento. :D Gli italiani fanno i rinfreschi migliori! Non si puo' competere. Ho potuto anche giocare con il piccolo Stefano e non mi stancavo mai delle sue guanciotte. Sorride sempre e ha un bel nome, ovviamente perche' e' uguale al mio. Ahahaha, quanto sono umile ora... ;)

Domenica abbiamo digiunato per il tempio di Roma. Speriamo davvero che la costruzione possa essere completata quest'anno ma non sappiamo cosa

stia succedendo. Tutto quello che sappiamo e' che ci e' stato chiesto di digiunare e di dedicare la nostra riunione sacramentale al tempio e al lavoro genealogico. ( Mi manca molto poter andare al tempio!). So che il Signore ascoltera' le nostre preghiere per il tempio di Roma. I membri italiani ne hanno tanto bisogno. Sono sempre stupita dalla loro fede e so che i loro sacrifici benediranno questa nazione.

Ho tante altre cose da dire ma il tempo non me lo consente. Passate una buona settimana. :)
