Transfer 6, Week 4

   Note: The names of the investigators have been changed

We're heading into Week 5 now and transfer calls are this Saturday... What on earth!! Time flies so fast. I'm calling it right now, Sorella Reber and I are both staying together for one more transfer. She's not allowed to leave yet!!!

This past week was pretty interesting, to say the least!! We went to Zone Conference in Catania and man, was it humid... I think I like the windy Ragusa weather way better. Hahaha it was really fun to be with other missionaries again and get this! My cousins showed up!! That was so cool!  We took some pictures together and I was really happy about it all because my cousin Gabriele is leaving for his mission to France soon so thank heavens I got to see him before he leaves. Seeing family as a missionary is strange but it's also special because the missionary  spirit really makes itself manifest. :)

There have been a ton of random thunderstorms here lately and it kinda pulled a brake on the work. Not so fun. But zone conference got us really pumped up because all the training was about working with members and teaching them how to be missionaries so we got home and started working twice as hard with ten times as much faith! We started seeing miracles right away. They were all little things, like running into members at the grocery store and talking to people we hadn't heard from in a long time but we could really tell that God was aware of our efforts and was showing us how much He loves us.

We taught Silvia TWO lessons this week. Record. We taught her the Restoration and invited her to be baptized at the end! Her reaction was HILARIOUS. She looked at me and grinned and wagged her finger and said, "Ahhhh, monella!!!" That means naughty in Italian. She didn't accept it but she didn't reject it either. She says she'll think about it, so that's a start. She is such a character... Hahaha. We saw her again later in the week and taught her the Plan of Salvation with Sorella Frasca. Her being there was perfect because she's a convert of only five years and she could really bear testimony of what it's like to have lived without the Church and then to be baptized and live with all of the blessings that come with having made that step. Silvia still wasn't convinced and unfortunately she didn't come to church the next
day but... We saw her on the bus this morning so we're keeping in touch with her and we'll keep praying for a miracle.

Speaking of miracles. Anziano Martin had his permesso di soggiorno and his license stolen from his wallet a couple days ago and it would have meant him going all the way up to Rome and spending a ton of money to take care of it... And then the next day he woke up and found them sticking out from under his bed. I am completely serious. Those weren't there the night before. We all know that God sent down angels that day. It's really humbling when things like that happen...
We were able to visit Sorella Ragusa again, which was great! She's living by the beach so we took a bus down to the Marina and she picked us up at the station and took us to her summer house. She's there with an old woman, Caterina, who lives in the apartment above hers back in Ragusa. Sorella Ragusa had been meaning for us to meet Caterina for a while so it was great to finally get to do that! She's super catholic so talking about Jesus with her is really easy. :) She loved us and invited us to her house for dinner once they go back to Ragusa!

 We helped Sorella Ragusa pick some figs and she let us take a whole basketful home!! We ate so many... I love figs. And getting them right off the tree is really something else. Can't get more Italian than that. :)

The rest of the week included some member visits here and there and some finding. We talked to a few nice people and left some good spiritual thoughts so that was fulfilling! But yeah, things here are great and I really love Ragusa more and more the longer I'm here. It's
been a month already! Can you believe that?
Well, on to a new week. :)

                  TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO 

 NOTA: Il nome dei simpatizzanti e' stato cambiato. 

Ci stiamo inoltrando nella quinta settimana e le chiamate per i trasferimenti sono questo sabato...Accipicchia!!! Il tempo vola cosi' velocemente. Lo sto dicendo ora, io e Sorella Reber rimarremo insieme per un altro trasferimento. Non ha il permesso di partire ancora!!!

Quest'ultima settimana e' stata davvero interessante,  come minimo!! Siamo andati alla conferenza di zona a Catania e, mamma mia, come era umido... Penso che mi piaccia di piu' il clima ventoso di Ragusa. Ahahah, e' stato davvero divertente stare di nuovo con gli altri missionari e da non crederci! Sono venuti i miei cugini! E' stato fortissimo! Abbiamo fatto delle foto insieme ed ero davvero contenta perche' mio cugino Gabriele sta partendo a breve per la missione in Francia cosi' grazie al cielo l'ho potuto vedere prima che partisse. Vedere la propria famiglia come missionari e' strano ma e' anche speciale perche' davvero lo spirito missionario si rende manifesto. :)

Ci sono stati un sacco di temporali sporadici qui ultimamente e in qualche modo cio' ha frenato il lavoro missionario. Non molto divertente. Ma la conferenza di zona ci ha davvero dato energia perche' tutto l'addestramento e' stato su come lavorare con i membri e come insegnare a loro ad essere dei missionari cosi' non appena siamo tornate a casa abbiamo cominciato a lavorare il doppio con una fede dieci volte piu' grande! Abbiamo cominciato a vedere miracoli immediatamente. Erano tutte cose piccole, come imbattersi nei membri al supermercato o parlare con persone con cui non avevamo contatto da tempo ma potevamo dire che il Signore era consapevole dei nostri sforzi e che ci stava mostrando quanto ci ama.

Abbiamo insegnato a Silvia DUE lezioni questa settimana. Record. Le abbiamo insegnato la Restaurazione e alla fine l'abbiamo invitata a battezzarsi! La sua reazione e' stata TROPPO DIVERTENTE.  Mi ha guardato, ha serrato i denti e mi ha puntato il dito dicendo "Ahhh, monella!!!" Non ha accettato ma non ha neanche rifiutato. Ha detto che ci avrebbe pensato cosi' almeno e' un inizio. E' un tale personaggio...ahahah. L'abbiamo rivista durante la settimana e le abbiamo insegnato il Piano di Salvezza con Sorella Frasca. E' stato perfetto che fosse li' perche' lei e' una convertita di soli cinque anni e ha potuto portare la sua testimonianza di come sia vivere senza la Chiesa e poi di essere battezzata e di vivere con tutte le benedizioni che vengono dall'aver fatto quel passo. Silvia non era ancora persuasa e sfortunatamente non e' venuta in chiesa il giorno dopo ma.. l'abbiamo vista sull'autobus stamattina cosi' ci teniamo in contatto con lei e pregheremo per un miracolo.

Parlando di miracoli, hanno rubato dal portafoglio di Anziano Martin sia il permesso di soggiorno che la patente due giorni fa il che avrebbe significato andare a Roma e spendere un sacco di soldi per per sistemare il tutto... E invece il giorno dopo si e' svegliato e li ha trovati che spuntavano da sotto il suo letto. Sono assolutamente seria. Non c'erano la notte prima. Sappiamo tutti che il Signore ha mandato i suoi angeli quel giorno. Ci fa sentire davvero piccoli vedere accadere queste cose...

Abbiamo fatto di nuovo una visita a Sorella Ragusa, il che e' stato grandioso! Ha una casa vicino al mare cosi' abbiamo preso il pullman  fino a Marina e lei poi ci ha preso alla stazione e ci ha portato alla sua casa estiva. Sta li' con una donna anziana, Caterina, che vive nell'appartamento sopra il suo a Ragusa. Sorella Ragusa voleva che incontrassimo Caterina gia' da tempo cosi' e' stato bello poterlo finalmente fare! E' molto cattolica cosi' parlare di Gesu' con lei e' stato facilissimo. :) Ci vuole bene e ci ha invitato ad andare a casa sua a cena quando ritorna a Ragusa!

 Abbiamo aiutato Sorella Ragusa a cogliere alcuni fichi e ci ha fatto portare un intero cesto a casa!! Ne abbiamo mangiati tanti... amo i fichi. Ma prenderli direttamente dall'albero e' tutta un'altra cosa. Non si puo' essere piu' italiani di cosi' . :)

Il resto della settimana ha incluso alcune visite ai membri qui e li' e un po' di ricerca. Abbiamo parlato con un po' di persone e abbiamo lasciato alcuni pensieri spirituali cosi' e' stato tutto molto edificante! Ma si', le cose qui vanno bene e amo davvero Ragusa sempre di piu' mano a mano che sono qui. E' gia' passato un mese! Da non crederci!

Bene, cominciamo una nuova settimana. :)

Transfer 6, Week 3

I'm writing this in a stuffy, nasty bus in Catania and it is a party!
We came up a day early for zone conference and we're staying with the
Catania sisters tonight so for P-day we have been sweating our faces
off like crazy. It is WAY hotter here than in Ragusa.

This week has all been a blur, honestly. But we have great news about
Rosario!!! He texted us a few days ago to tell us he'd been reading the
pamphlet we left him and he really wanted the Book of Mormon!! So on
Saturday we met with him for half an hour and explained what the Book
of Mormon is and he took it! We invited him to church and he said he'd
try but he never made it so we'll just try again for next week. He's
really great. :)

Lorenzo and Simone dropped a bomb on us on Friday and told us that 
they can't come to English Course lessons anymore because they're busy 
for the rest of the summer. Sad... But Anziano Brandon brought us a
gluten-free sugar-free lemon bar cake right before they showed up so
we ate it with Lorenzo and Simone! It was so good!!! Sorella Reber and I
kinda ate the whole thing ourselves... No shame. :)

We were supposed to visit Silvia with Fratello and Sorella Chines but she
forgot about our appointment so that was disappointing... She doesn't
know when we can come back yet so we'll give that some time.

Sorella Reber hit her halfway mark this week so to celebrate we went and
did some finding in an ancient Greek city right by Ragusa called Ibla.
We got soy ice cream with nuts and coconut shreds as a treat and it
was really good! I'd never had it before. While we were in Ibla we
stopped a group of British tourists and turns out one of them was a
man from Boston who has been living in the UK for the last few years!
He had a British-American accent. It was cool.

I also baked my first yogurt cake with a gas oven. I was super afraid
that it would burn or not cook all the way through but it was perfect
and tasted really good!! Sorella Reber made a nice chocolate frosting for
it and we shared it with the famiglia Chines. :)

Sunday was amazing because a lot of less-active members came to
church!! Gioia, the one we're working with, came for ALL three hours
of church and even got up to bear her testimony during our testimony
meeting about the importance of coming to church on time and getting
as much out of church as possible! She started to cry while she was
talking so she got flustered and finished really fast but she totally
felt the Spirit and that was the most important part. :) Two guys her
age also traded numbers with her in church so that was cool.

Also on the bus towards the sorelle's house we started talking to a
university student from Siracusa who used to go to English Course
there and went to high school with Oscar Reali, one of the members in
Siracusa! Sorella Defranchi left the guy a Mormon.org card so if he's
interested in the church he's got a phone number and an address to
refer to. :)

Things are great in Ragusa and being a missionary in the summer is
hard, but it's doable with the right attitude! I hope everyone has

 e' stato cambiato. 

Sto scrivendo in un brutto autobus affollato a Catania ed e' una goduria! 
Siamo arrivate un giorno prima per la conferenza di zona e staremo 
con le sorelle di Catania stanotte cosi' durante questo P-day 
abbiamo sudato da pazze. E' MOLTO piu' caldo qui che a Ragusa.

Questa settimana e' stata proprio poco chiara, onestamente. Ma abbiamo
buone notizie su Rosario!!! Ci ha mandato un text alcuni giorni fa per 
dirci che sta leggendo l'opuscolo che gli abbiamo dato e che voleva
 davvero il Libro di Mormon!! Cosi' sabato ci siamo incontrati con lui
per mezz'ora e gli abbiamo spiegato cos'e' il Libro di Mormon e lo ha
 preso! Lo abbiamo invitato in chiesa e ha detto che ci avrebbe provato
 ma non e' mai venuto cosi' ci proveremo di nuovo la prossima
 settimana. E' davvero in gamba. :)

Lorenzo e Simone ci hanno fatto un bidone venerdi' e ci hanno detto
che non possono venire piu' al corso di inglese perche' hanno da fare 
per il resto dell'estate. Triste... ma Anziano Brandon ci ha portato 
una torta al limone senza glutine e senza zucchero prima che 
arrivassero quindi l'abbiamo mangiata con Lorenzo e Simone! 
Era cosi' buona!! Io e Sorella Reber l'abbiamo mangiata quasi tutta 
da sole...senza vergogna. :)

Avremmo dovuto andare a trovare Silvia con Fratello e Sorella Chines
ma ha dimenticato il nostro appuntamento ed e' stato un po' deludente..
Non sa ancora quando potremo ritornare cosi' le daremo del tempo.

Sorella Reber ha raggiunto la meta' della sua missione questa settimana
cosi' per festeggiare siamo andate a fare ricerca in un'antica citta'
 greca vicino Ragusa che si chiama Ibla. Abbiamo mangiato il gelato
 di soia con le nocciole e il cocco ed era proprio buono! Non lo avevo 
mai mangiato prima.
Mentre stavamo ad Ibla abbiamo fermato un gruppo di turisti 
britannici e abbiamo scoperto che uno di loro era un uomo di Boston 
che vive nel Regno Unito da alcuni anni! Aveva un accento 
anglo-americano. Troppo forte. 

Ho anche fatto la mia prima torta allo yogurt con il forno a gas.
Avevo molta paura che si bruciasse o che non si cuocesse
 completamente ma era perfetta ed era molto buona! Sorella Reber
 ha fatto un'ottima copertura al cioccolato  e l'abbiamo condivisa
con la famiglia Chines. :)

Domenica e' stata incredibile perche' un sacco di membri meno attivi
sono venuti in chiesa!! Gioia, quella con cui stiamo lavorando, e' 
venuta per TUTTE e tre le ore di chiesa e si e' pure alzata per portare
la sua testimonianza durante la riunione di testimonianze sull'importanza
di venire in chiesa puntuali e sull'imparare in chiesa il piu' possibile!
Ha cominciato a piangere mentre parlava cosi' si e' un po' agitata e ha
concluso molto velocemente ma ha sentito lo Spirito e questa e' la cosa 
piu' importante. :) Due ragazzi della stessa eta' hanno scambiato
 i loro numeri di telefono con lei in chiesa e quello era forte. 
Fraternizzare!!

Inoltre sull'autobus verso la casa delle sorelle abbiamo cominciato
 a parlare ad uno studente universitario di Siracusa che era solito
 andare al Corso di Inglese li' e che e' andato alla scuola superiore 
con Oscar Reali, uno dei membri di Siracusa! Sorella Defranchi gli
 ha lasciato un bigliettino di Mormon.org cosi' se fosse interessato
 alla chiesa ha un numero telefonico e un indirizzo di riferimento. :)

Le cose vanno benone a Ragusa ed essere un missionario d'estate
 e' dura ma fattibile con il giusto atteggiamento! Spero che  abbiate
 tutti una gran bella settimana. Ciao per ora!
